The organizers better find a deep hole. Trudeau has proven he’ll use any means to enforce his will.
And how "deep a hole" will ALL people in Canada find themselves in if Canada = Third Reich Germany pt 2?)

Aren't Union leaders voted into office?
If they see a ground swell against their position, they will change their tune.

Union voting tends to be extremely dirty and the NLRB will look the other way as long as it isn’t the business fixing a vote to kick out / prevent a union.

Yes you are right. The reason I say I've come across countless union drivers is because I've picked up or delivered at most of those places over the last 22 years. Mostly grocery warehouses.

In theory yes but corruption and all. They are probably getting kickbacks from the government

The trucker unions will always take the side of the government. Their leaders buy lawmakers in order to get legislation passed that favors their causes. No bridge protest was going to change that.
There has always been animosity between unionized truckers and non-unionized truckers going back to the Hoffa days when they used to beat the shite out of each other.
Lack of union support is not the gotcha that you think it is.

quote:Yeah, but the unions were quiet for the first 2 weeks of the Ottawa protests. When the bridge got shut down they all put out statements and were very vocal against the protests. It is one thing to gridlock a city and pass off residents, it is another thing when you shut down truck deliveries against union wishes.

But here's the problem, the passport/mandates apply whether the individual is union or not ......
and > 70% of Canadian imports into the US transit via truck transport .....
The problem is that Trudeau and much of his cabinet are owned by CCP ...

Why are they holding this tightly to the mandates?
Posted on 2/21/22 at 10:33 am to Speckaholic
I think the Truckers mistake was parking and establishing a set area for their protest. They could have been more effective moving that protest convoy around as the police/government started increasing the pressure.
Protest for 2-3 days in one area then leave for a day and pop up somewhere else or return to the same spot. That would have caused more disruption via the moving traffic congestions and it would have allowed them to replenish fuel and food.

This was the first logical move. It would have basically put all the pressure on Trudeau because he is making the rules and the truckers are being forced not to work.
The truck blockade put a target on their backs and let the left demonize them while ruining their careers and huge family impact with no gains. I support their cause but it was very short sighted and they had their best hand to play at the very beginning.

The truckers didn't make a mistake. They are publicly protesting in a VERY peaceful manner, as is their Right. It is clearly the Trudeau administration who is in the wrong, .... which is why Trudeau refused to even meet with them or discuss their point of view.
Hey, remember when Trudeau was on bended knee for BLM and met several times with BLM leaders? .... I do.

There is a difference between doing what is their right and doing what is tactically smart and their right. It was a mistake. They had the power from the very beginning and got caught up in the feels of the moment and not truly looking at what would cause their demands to be met.

freezing banks accounts maybe?

That and declaring “emergency powers” solely to shut down a lawful protest because it pissed off the wrong people. Hell, they were threatening a restaurant because they got a ton of business from the truckers during this which allowed them to pay off debts run up during Covid closures.
This started peaceful and remained peaceful until the Ottawa cops under the interim chief decided to go jackboot thug on them. And now he is saying “If you leave, we’ll track you down and destroy you.”
Almost if they are begging for a violent response. Except at this point I think a lot of people would be with them for doing so.

They’ve seen their or people they know bank accounts being frozen, whether they were unionized or not.
Public health, calling public health, has anyone seen public health?
We’ve just witnessed thousands of Canadians from all walks of life and from every province congregated in a confined space due to a typical Canadian winter. Huddled in truck cabs and bars and restaurants for weeks due to the cold, where is the pandemic, where is the superspreader event?
