Ya, it's called being a libertarian.

I consider myself to be what you describe.

Pursue happiness unimpeded. Don’t tread on me and I won’t tread on you. Follow the law. Don’t spend my tax dollars on social issues.

Otherwise, live and let live.
But don’t spend my money on bullshite.

Libertarianism is what people claim to be because they're ashamed to admit they are democrats.

Sort of. There might be some bleed over where government handouts supporting "progressive" social policies are concerned, but usually it just means that the government should allow people to do immoral things in the name of liberty while not wanting the government to pay for it. It's how a lot of libertarians think.

Not really. When it comes to social programs (which is a fundamental necessity for the social liberal because they see government as the great equalizer) the fiscal conservative is going to want to make sure anyone enrolled actually meets the criteria while the social liberal will believe whatever limits there are on such programs are inadequate and need to be expanded.

I'm a fiscal conservative and social libertarian so the smaller program with strict criteria falls within the framework of both philosophies.

I’m not a Democrat, but I’m no longer a Republican either.

Libertarians are people who are actually consistent when they say they're for small government.

No.

People must conform to very small, narrow belief structures.

It is the law.

Most libertarians want less govt, a contrast with a lot of Democrats and Republicans.

Thanks. I always assumed to be socially liberal equated to being liberal with the money.

Yes, you can support having a balanced budget while supporting the rights of others to peacefully live how they see fit. It boils down to entitlements, and how they produce irresponsible behavior for the most part. I don't consider that a tenant of social liberalism, as I actually think it is detrimental to the good of society.

Sure. Why not? It's actually more logically consistent--leave people's money/businesses alone, leave their personal choices alone.

Just like being a nanny-state moralist is technically more consistent.

Unfortunately, however, most Americans fall into the "do what you want with your money, but let us tell you what to drink, smoke, whom to sleep with, etc" (lots of conservatives). And the "do whatever the hell you want in your personal life, but give us half your money to piss away and let us tell you how to run your business while we're at it" (lots of liberals). So the overwhelming bulk of us hold logically inconsistent political beliefs.

I couldnt count the number of "small govt conservatives" that voted in favor of big brother govt yesterday over FISA 702.

Fiscally conservative doesn't mean you won't spend anything.
Socially liberal doesn't mean you will give everyone everything.

In my experience, a lot of Midwesterners balance both. It needs to be reasonable though. Generational welfare and programs that breed laziness don't cut it. But discounted kid's lunches, local government and NPO food banks, income-based rental and utility rates are typically viewed either favorably or with indifference. As long as the users are actually working.
