Can anyone explain why the Russians were for Trump instead of Hillary?

I mean, if all this were true, Putin wanted Trump as president.
However, the worst thing possible for Russia is a strong America.
When taxes are cut, that is bad for Russia.
When we spend all our time fighting about trannies and race, that is good for Russia.
Having Trump as president is not good for Russia.

The reason put forward by the democrats was that because Putin had compromising images of Trump (the materials in the Dossier), he believed he could use that as blackmail material/leverage to influence a Trump presidency to reduce sanctions on them.

I would posit that they really just want discord and acrimony. To frick with the election is to cause this kind of tomfoolery and shenanigans. Russians "won" no matter what just because we are at each other's throats over the election.

Honestly, Hillary being a war hawk was a major reason. This is a woman who said her idol was Henry Kissinger, something Bernie rightly tarred her over. I thought one of the advantages of Trump being elected is we wouldn't get in a Middle East shite Storm, which was a certainly with Hillary.

You need to look more with Hillary. On the day after the election, after the shock wore off and I stopped laughing that Hillary lost to an orange pussy grabbing game show host, I did have a slight sigh of relief that shite probably wasn't going to escalate in the Middle East and around the world due to Trump being much more of an isolationist. Hillary is the prodigal daughter Henry Kissinger, someone who should have probably been executed for war cries, never had. She would be if Henry Kissinger was ever elected President.. With the possible exception of Dick Cheney, no one loved war more than Hillary Clinton.

I'd guess the Russians saw Hillary and her neocon allies as being ravenous for interventionist institutions like NATO and the U.N. and regime change in Syria, while seeing Trump as much more skeptical about involving ourselves in internationalist military alliances and another misguided attempt at regime change. I have no doubt that if Hillary were elected in 2016 we'd be even deeper in the Syria conflict than we have been.

It was passed by a veto-proof majority. Trump's decision not to sign the bill does nothing but delay it, in effect. He can't stop those sanctions.

Nothing has changed in 50 years. The Russians wanted division. It is why they promoted BLM and pokemon. The Russians adore the divide as well as the democrats and MSM making up muh russians.
