Their data in May met every single cdc and WH criteria to reopen. If a european nation had the data that those 4 states had, they would have reopened immediately. It would have been negligent not to.

All those states have robust testing and contact tracing as well, so please explain what issue you have?

Shouldn't DATA drive the policy? What data in May warned tx, fl, and CA against reopening?

I don’t think the European Union is testing like we are.

They all have one thing in common: a large amount of illegal immigrants from Mexico and it would have been even worse under a Democrat president because they would have encouraged even more people to come across the border.

Like everything else, it's a moving target already pockmarked with duplicity, lies, and outright combativeness.

Reopening can only result in case spikes. What we should be looking for is load on healthcare, deaths, etc...

This was never about eliminating new cases. It was supposed to about controlling spread as to not overwhelm the healthcare system and protecting the elderly/immunocompromized.

It is very difficult to find daily testing numbers for the EU. Does anyone know a good source?

Also, the EU is undergoing a similar phenomenon on a regional basis. Western Europe is in the position of New York, while Eastern Europe (which did not have a significant first wave) is in the position of Florida, Texas, and California.

Since there isn't one brave enough ... I'll speak for them:

Mandatory masks any time you leave your house.

All businesses except the big chains gotta close up 100%.

Police are good for nothing except for enforcing social distancing.

Everyone that don't work remotely gotta take a gubbmint check.

If you go to the hospital, it better be corona and you better go alone.

All churches must shutdown indefinitely unless it's a lib church.

If you ain't doing none of these things you gotta stay at home until there's a cure or Trump is out of office.

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah, no sports except soccer in a empty stadium.

1. Not let thousands pack in tightly for protests
2. Enforce mask order earlier
3. Enforce the reopen rules on businesses (bars and restaurants primarily) flagrantly breaking those rules of which there were many

California conducted 105,000 tests yesterday, the highest per capita rate in the world.

if you don't that is robust testing, I don't know what to tell you.

was this a joke? The economy, in fact, does hinge on small businesses selling their products and paying their workers. What an odd statement...

I meant exactly what I said, not what you said. College bars shouldnt be open. Other small businesses are fine. it's not hard to understand where the infections are coming from and where the trade off needs to be made
I am fine with closing bars. Doesn't impact employment much nor does it prevent you from enjoying alcohol with friends and family in a restaurant or dining area.

But the chicken littles are flat out saying the southwest "reopened too soon". They aren't saying "bars were reopened too soon".

Texas stats (as of 6/29):

Tests administered - 1,819,189
Negative results - 1,666,178
Positive - 153,011
Recovered - 81,335
Hospitalized - 5,913
Deaths - 2,403

So looking at the numbers of the tests administered 8% came back positive (153,011/1,819,189) and 92% of the test came back negative. Of the positive cases, 54% have recovered, 1.6% have died and 45% have neither recovered nor died (assume they are still being treated). Also of the positive cases, roughly 5% have required hospitalization - assuming 100% of the dead were hospitalized.

So looking at it for Texas we have a disease that infects 8% of the tested population, hospitalizes roughly 5% of the tested, and kills about 1.6%, tell me again why were are so worked up? Especially if the data overlapped co-morbidity factors.
