The state’s gross domestic product increased 21% during the past five years, dwarfing No. 2 New York (14%) and No. 3 Texas (12%), according to data compiled by Bloomberg. The gains added $530 billion to the Golden State, 30% more than the increase for New York and Texas combined

If validated that is very impressive.

If 50% plus of your earnings go the the federal and state government.... who gives a fck.
I’ll take Texas all day everyday and twice on Sunday.
Plus, I get to keep my guns... and carry them!

Well, I for one would rather have 50% of $200k instead of 65% of $100k.
(hypothetically speaking)

It’s amazing that people and businesses still stay there with their taxes, and the coming inflation

Straight from the Blomberg Opinion page!
Depending on the point you want to make, you might want to look into how state GDPs are usually calculated and what goes into them. It's not a mystery that Kali would be high on that list year in, year out.
And, you should always ask why they picked the time intervals they do ... but only if you're interested in what the bikini isn't showing you.

Agree. And while also agreeing with the previous poster that it’s impressive if true, the net loss of people, businesses continuing to move out, rolling blackouts, shrinking middle class and huge swaths of once beautiful cities turned into gigantic dangerous homelessness encampments with human crap, needles and garbage strewn everywhere this seems like a classic lipstick on a pig point of data that likely won’t sustain. Portraying the California Dream as alive and better than ever flies smack in the face of most every other story or data point seen or told.

Well, I for one would rather have 50% of $200k instead of 65% of $100k.
50% of 75k (37.5k) with absurdly out of control homeless camps, virtually no property rights. . .and authorities that refuse to protect your property and your business.
or
70-75% of 62k (43.4-46.5k) and a controlled homeless problem, mostly sovereign property rights, and general law and order
Looks like TX is the runaway winner here

Right because there’s zero difference in cost of living between the two states

Author also has one saying Idaho has the best economy because of progressives and anti-Trump trade policies.
Idaho.
Dude is a partisan imbecile

You can manipulate the numbers all you want, 2020 California’s GDP was -3.5%. Their state is in the toilet. They have the largest population so the fact that their economy is bigger isn’t impressive. I used to live there, nice weather, but stupid people have run it in the ground.

Here we are using real income, which accounts for value of money with COL accounted for. . .not even considering tax rates, homeless encroachment, and lack of LEO support from the government.
quote:
California
Median household income: $64,500
Regional price parity out of 100: 113.4
Real income: $56,878
quote:
Texas
Median household income: $55,653
Regional price parity out of 100: 96.8
Real income: $57,493

I can’t drive from my house to the local HEB grocery store without seeing 10 California license plates. Texas is awash in tidal wave of California refugees... some Conservatives fleeing the Socialist Utopia; some (unfortunately) Liberals too stupid to know why California was so expensive and plan on spreading the Liberal cancer.
Don’t try to paint California as some type of success story.

Thanks to the entertainment and Silicone Valley tech sectors.
Oil prices bottoming out in 2020 also affects Texas GDP a whole lot more than it affects California
