Well, why not? If Trump and the Republican Congress can't put through a meaningful, comprehensive healthcare plan, why not do it on a state by state basis?

This will cover ALL Californians, including differently documented immigrants:

Is this what we're calling illegal immigrants these days?

Good. States have the right to self determination even if they determine fiscal suicide.

I fully support California in this effort. I hope other states take note and do whatever that feel is in the best interest of their people.

If California wants to cover people who crossed the border illegally, work illegally, steal tax payer funded benefits illegally, and live illegally within their borders, good for them.

I think Vermont tried single payer and it failed. I don't think the rest of the country noticed. If it goes 0 for 2 and California is the other state it fails in. That will be bad for the Dems. If a small state can't do it and and a place with the resources of California can't do it. I don't know how you can convince the country it will work on the federal level. Other then saying "we just needed more money and higher taxes". You can only go to that well so many times though.

As long as they don't ask the federal government to bail them out when they go bankrupt. I really wish they would secede and make everybody happy.

Which goes bankrupt next?

I think this is a GREAT idea for California to try. When the systems is completely broke in 5 to 10 years perhaps it will shut down all of the marxist idiots in the rest of the country.

Heard Rush today said the price tag is 400 billion a year. California's annual budget is 180 Billion a year. They intend to make up the difference by a 15% payroll tax.

How fricking stupid are people in California? are the closer to the sun and getting their brains baked? This will utterly collapse the entire state and they deserve it.

...oh and BTW, all illegals would get 100% full benefits so they won't pay into the system and those that do will have to cover their cost as well...AWESOME!!!!

So if you live in Oregon or Nevada just head next door when you have something serious to take care of.

Go for it as California has been so well run in recent decades.

It's unworkable by Californias own estimates. The cost of singly payer is hundreds of billions over californias entire budget. A huge tax on all workers is being proposed to cover the costs. Only complete nuts would support something like this. You are giving up your rights to the government. It's insane

You're gonna pull a muscle

eta. I'm all for California doing it if that's what the voters want but I fear the fed gov having to bail them out once it fails miserably.

“It is not the right time for Vermont” to pass a single-payer system, Shumlin acknowledged in a public statement ending his signature initiative. He concluded the 11.5 percent payroll assessments on businesses and sliding premiums up to 9.5 percent of individuals’ income “might hurt our economy.”

I don't believe even proponents of single payer want this to happen. California is not the best test-subject state, and there will be rapid devolution of the insurance pools.
