Well, no one is alive now for at least 80 years that was remotely affected, so this one will be tough. Might as well give it to everyone who holds their hands out.

Also, we need Trump to win so he can cut funding to California if they do stuff like this.

So when are they giving reparations to the Chinese and Japanese who were treated even worse?

1. What about your question is funny enough for you to be laughing at it?

2. Why don't you check and see if the United States government gave reparations to the Japanese...

So it's racist and sexist

It’s not racism in the slightest. Reparations has always been the means to get this country to come to terms with slavery, Jim Crow, mass incarceration, etc.

So, giving people money will magically make the country (actually state in this case) come to terms with slavery, Jim Crow, Mass Incarceration, etc.?

Can't put the shite back in the horse. Why do people deserve anything for something that did not happen to them? Think you can give a real answer instead of that BS you just spouted?

It would make as much sense as this stupid idea, that's for sure.

Reparations won't solve a single thing in this country. For some reason, so many people have this simplistic notion that just throwing money at problems will solve it. That's not how the world usually works.

And where is this money going to come from? Tax payers? Why should Asians, Hispanics, and other black people have to pay for it? Or is it just white tax payers? Which is discriminatory in itself, and also "white" is a pretty broad term. Plenty of whites with ancestors who never owned slaves or had anything to do with any of that.

It would create way more problems then it would solve, and somehow you can't see that.

reparations to the Japanese
they gave the world a lot, and still continue to do so.

The Japanese don't need any help, and would probably find it insulting.

I can't wait to show that my ancestors were slave owners, as well as slaves.

What if you are white and your family immigrated to the US in the 1950s?

We've gone from having all people asking for equality to now some asking for preferential treatment

I was, and I assume he was, referring to Japanese Americans that we interred during world war II.

Except that he didn't think that we had paid any because he doesn't know his history. You may be the same way. But we did.

How do you reconcile this with voting for one of the authors of the 1994 Crime Bill? Joe Biden has objectively done more to perpetuate mass incarceration than Donald Trump.

The slave plantations in Malibu were some of the worst of the slavery era. Only when they were freed and the former slave heaven that is Compton was established, did black Californians recover. I hope they give them fiddy millionbillion and the entire Tupac/Dr Dre compilation.

As the old slave era hymn states so eloquently--Free shite At Last.

There is a certain convoluted logic that takes place within this discussion that basically says the plight of blacks is due to slavery. Otherwise why would we be paying reparations for slavery. So if reparations are the things that's going to make it equal then I would be in favor of them if all other handout programs ceased that very day. No aid for dependent children, no section 8 crap, no free lunches etc. depending on the amount of the reparations we would probably be breaking even within just a few years.

Of course the major problem is the real source of many of the issues of the poor is the fact that we've been giving them things. It takes away incentive, It takes away pride, It takes away so much of what makes people successful. So I'm not sure how giving them more is going to help.

Would be funny if you could choose to "opt in" to pay more in taxes that go to reparations.

Then the list of people who opted in and opted out is leaked to the public
