Analysts say the Cold War agreement allows the president to increase the American military presence almost at will.

The Path is Very Clear Now!!
quote:

That’s what infuriates longtime Danish political experts. If Mr. Trump wanted to beef up Greenland’s security right now, he could. But there has been no such official American request, said Jens Adser Sorensen, a former senior official in Denmark’s Parliament.

“Why don’t you use the mechanism of the defense agreement if you’re so worried about the security situation?” he said, adding: “The framework is there. It’s in place.”

But Greenland’s strategic location is not the only thing that has attracted Mr. Trump’s inner circle. The enormous island has another draw: critical minerals, loads of them, buried under the ice. Here, too, analysts say, the United States doesn’t need to take over the island to get them.

Greenlanders have said they are open to doing business — with just about anyone.

Greenland will be welcomed to America real soon. I love this POTUS Trump guy. He is the GOAT POTUS!!

Greenland is so important to our defense that we have a grant total of about 150 (a record low) military members there now as opposed to the 20,000 we had in the 1960s.

Please just say: "We want Greenland because we want Greenland. We don't need to justify ourselves to you. We're the USA, the only superpower."

I wonder why The NY Times would write that piece. It’s filled with facts.

On topic, Trump probably just wants to make a deal because that’s what his inclination is. Maybe there’d be more buy-in from the interested parties.

I see your point, but I think we've been lulled into complacency. It's becoming more apparent of our adversaries goals and ambitions. Trump is seeing the bigger picture. I trust his instincts.

We can use the natural resource profits to pay for the expanded military. Thats better than more taxes.

I do too. I never doubt that he's acting in what he thinks are the best interests of the USA.

Most people do. Trump has been right about literally everything. There has been absolutely zero reason to doubt him.

There is no good reason to take over and possess Greenland. We can increase our military presence there as it is. Unfortunately, the more Trump and Miller shoot off their mouths, the more indignation they'll create in Greenland and Denmark.

They can't help themselves. It's performance...

I do not think Trump was POTUS in the 60's. If I remember, the MIC proved who was in charge.
