I’ve agreed with your reasoning throughout this thread until this statement. Bukele had to stop the momentum by seizing control of the public spaces. If you disagree with that then maybe you have some semantic disagreement with the word “momentum”.

Yeah the "momentum" argument would have required Bukele to use momentum to get the criminals out of society, but he chose a different path (seizing, as you said).

You don't need momentum if you simply remove all the criminals. If this "ball of criminality" is the metaphor for moemtnum/inertia, the criminals had the ball moving with such force the energy/resources needed to stop it would be immense and impossible culturally. You could engage in a slow process to add more friction (cultural change) and eventually stop the ball and then push it the other way.

What Bukele did was simply remove the ball itself entirely. There is no more momentum heading towards society anymore to deal with.

This is always your argument.

It's not even an argument as much as accurately stating what reality is.

You like to deflect from the amount of crime by saying it was higher at some point in the past.

Historically it's very low today in the objective.

You are excusing prominent, bad behavior detrimental to a free society just because it was worse at one point. That's stupid.

It's very low historically and trending down. What's your issue?

You are under the mistaken impression that changing momentum requires a gradual application of force. That is not so. It’s an understandable mistake for someone who has never really studied physics.

A tennis ball thrown against a wall has its momentum direction reversed almost 180 degrees in a time so short that it seems instantaneous.

The mask is off with this board the past two years. Most of you guys don't actually care about things like free speech or civil liberties, which you purported to during the Biden administration. SFP and Roger have always been consistent on these subjects.

Naw. I covered the alternative

What we're discussing now is where society is after the momentum of criminality was completely removed via force.

Others are conflating that "force" scenario with a "cultural momentum "scenario and pretending that we need the cultural momentum once the threat is removed.

You know why crime is going down but instead you do the berries and cream dance and act like society is getting better

The violent and criminal behavior was exclusively due to a specific population that has been removed.

Thus, it's been successful.

Bukele didn't use cultural or behavioral momentum to achieve his goals. You'd have an argument had he done so ,but he chose the other path, and that path is what my post describes.

Where do you think the drive to create an increase in authoritarianism came from? Cultural momentum pushing for change.

quote:

The "momentum" had already been changed by removing that population, and further state erosion of rights isn't necessary anymore.

I think this is the point where we see things differently. The momentum has changed, but it hasn't reached over-correction yet (that would be the point where a large segment of society would call for peeling back the laws and/or level of enforcement). Once he (or, more accurately, the sum of the actions driving the momentum) no longer enjoys widespread support, that's when the momentum changes.

The Bukele magic is quite apparent. He is allowing good to conquer evil. I pray he is followed with leaders who admire what he has done.

With increased US protection of this hemisphere as a whole, expect good things to happen. The Monroe Doctrine is being used as it should be.

This could only be true if criminality had been 100% eliminated, which is not the case.

You misunderstood what momentum was (or were just lazy about it) and now you are quibbling to get off that hook. It’s your least attractive trait, along with contrarianism, that partly spoils an otherwise perspicacious and educated persona.

I don't know if using cities where crime has dramatically dropped over the past 30 years WITHOUT dictatorial, right-erosion are the examples you want to cite.

Hands down, one of the most retarded posts you've made, counselor. Self-report to the Bar, do not pass Go.

I'm certain you can back it up, with cooked numbers.

Then you completely ignore cities (like DC has finally admitted) which are not accurate, the FBI admits are not accurate.. The same cities which ignore 911, because 'response' rates of 30-40%, causing 'underreporting', because .... wait for it, frustrated individuals and businesses often don't call.

So, if you want to state 'reporting is down', then you may be correct. Crime is not.

Lets take an example, Murder-Homicide. In El Salvador, last year about 1.2 per 100k people. Total of 82 homicides.

That's a couple of weekends in Chicago alone, my brother, at 7.7 per 100k people.

You do you, boo.

I follow this American baw who moved to El Salvador on Instagram and it’s crazy how safe it is there now. So much so that the locals told him that Salvadorian illegal immigrants here are moving back home.

A couple of counter-points:

-There are no more gang members left to correct for now
--El Salvador was considered a major transit route for international drug trafficking. The laws and enforcement going on there right now has curtailed that greatly, but it doesn't mean the place is now invulnerable to returning to that state if laws began being relaxed (especially after only a relatively short amount of time).

-The most important point is that it's worked. Magnificently. The goal now should be to maintain the status quo and you don't do that by going in reverse.
