“There was one single can made,” Tatum said in the ad.
“It was not for sale and wasn’t properly approved. As a result, the Bud Light brand has new leadership.”
Tatum continued: “Dylan Mulvaney is not under contract with Bud Light.”
“The videos you may have seen are Mulvaney’s own social media posts that went viral and many web-based news outlets have distorted the story,” he said in the ad.
Translation: We are sorry you mistakenly think we tried to piss you off. Now stop being pissed off and go back to buying my beer.
These distributors should have stormed corporate headquarters with pitchforks the week this shite went down.

easily the most infuriating part of all of this is their absolute refusal to own up. "you guys just dont understand. we didnt mean to do this...we just made the one can, and then some nefarious (FAR RIGHT MAGA EXTREMIST MISINFORMATION PEDDLING) online trolls spread it."

how fricking patronizing and insulting, as if people arent capable of seeing what actually happened and making a decision based on that

I see some in the thread aren't impressed with Tatum's appeal, but I think the idea has merit especially as a way for AB to begin trying to walk this back.
If I was an executive at AB, I'd have to say putting up the advertising dollars and allowing the distributors to take a local approach with their customers Has merit and would be much better than what they've tried from the top so far.
I'd recommend they find a "conservative" ad firm in the South or Midwest, have them quietly build a message(s) that distributors can utilize and then send the corporate money to support them recording the TV and radio ads in their market areas.

You're not wrong.
Appealing locally, talking about local people that work there, local values, regional accent...forcing those people to ask for forgiveness rather than asking for it form on high at corporate where they are 100% tone deaf etc would flip some people.
But this is hard to get past...and it's what people see now when they see a can of Bud Light.

Sometimes there are innocent casualties in war. Sucks for him and his employees but we still have to keep sending a message.

All this pandering really makes me think sales of BL being down 27ish% is just the tip of the iceberg
And as Bo Jackson said: “ It is a big arse iceberg”

if this dude had a clue about leadership or if he ACTUALLY cared about his people, he would vocally and publicly call out the A-B corporate hq for this entire debacle. he would blame THEM for why his employees are suffering.
all this bullshite he did is just parroting what we already heard from their CEO, which is essentially nothing.

At this point Bud should get an Asian spokesperson and change the name of the product to Bud Right...

Very true and that's probably why Tatum's comments fell short with the "TD.com Political Talk Focus Group".
To be effective, you can't rely just on it wasn't us, it was just one can, it was posted by an individual on his personal media account.
Don't talk about who you're not. Talk about who you are, what you stand for, what you do in your community, why you need your customers so you can continue serving your community. Make sure that honesty can be easily recognized by the viewers or listeners.
Do media research to find the market areas most affected and target them with the local messages.

The "little guy" is gonna be alright
Not really, the “little guy” is going to be the 1st to be laid off
Real pain is coming, and the every day Joe that is just doing his job will suffer

This is business. You want people to voluntarily drink a beer that they disagree with the seller on because a guy might get laid off?
Do you think the same thing of the mom and pops when you shop amazon, walmart, target, lowes, home depot, etc...? No. But when it comes to a brand touting trannies we need to all of a sudden "think of the every day Joe working there". frick off with that emotional drivel.

Actually, the 1st to get laid off was the bud light brand spokesperson who started this.
