An Anheuser-Busch wholesale beer distributor based in Alabama has taken to the radio airwaves to slam Bud Light’s parent company over its marketing partnership with Dylan Mulvaney.

Steve Tatum, general manager of Montgomery-based Bama Budweiser, paid for a radio commercial in hopes of reassuring alienated consumers that he wasn’t on board with Bud Light’s social media campaign partnership with Mulvaney, the controversial transgender influencer.

Bud Light, which has been subjected to harsh blowback, is trying to win back hearts and minds.

The brand is offering generous rebates for Memorial Day that in some cases amount to free beer.

“We too at Bama Budweiser are upset about it and have made our feelings known to the top leadership at Anheuser-Busch,” Tatum said.

Bama Budweiser, an Alabama-based wholesaler, is distancing itself from the brand’s marketing campaign with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney.

quote:

“The voice of the consumer has been heard, and Anheuser-Busch has taken action.”

Tatum added: “We at Bama Budweiser, an independent wholesaler, employ around 100 people who live here, work here, and our children go to school here.”

“We do not, and as I said before, did not support this issue involving Dylan Mulvaney.”

quote:

Tatum referred to Bud Light’s decision to place two marketing executives on leave.

He also referred to the custom can of Bud Light bearing Mulvaney’s likeness.

An image of the commemorative can, which was made to mark the anniversary of her transition from a man to a woman, was posted to Mulvaney’s social media account, which numbers millions of followers.

quote:

“There was one single can made,” Tatum said in the ad.

“It was not for sale and wasn’t properly approved. As a result, the Bud Light brand has new leadership.”

Tatum continued: “Dylan Mulvaney is not under contract with Bud Light.”

“The videos you may have seen are Mulvaney’s own social media posts that went viral and many web-based news outlets have distorted the story,” he said in the ad.

quote:

“You deserve to know the truth, and life is too short to let a couple of individuals decide what you can eat or drink or spend your hard-earned money on.”

“And remember, making friends is our business, not enemies.”

That was a terrible plea. I get why but that fell short. Bigly.

I get that there is many employees at AB and did not support this and would not support it now. But, the damage is now done. Don't bring business into politics. It's that simple.

Takes given this late in the game have questionable motive, especially after getting your arse handed to you in declining sales.

Coors and MILLER lite will have to hire those drivers to keep up.

People are not stopping drinking beer. They are stopping Bud light drinking.

Interesting. He blasts the Mulvaney decision while attempting to minimize it.

Can’t have it both ways. The fact that AB has still not apologized for wading in to social issues is all consumers need to know.

Let them continue to atrophy in their arrogance.

AB still hasn’t fired the horrible out of touch lady responsible for the situation.

I’m tired of hearing this excuse.
That defense is almost as oblivious as the initial “event.”
In this case, the production of one can is no different than the production of one million.

I’m not nearly as upset with the can as I am with the VP of Marketing calling me “fratty and out of touch” intended as an insult.

Allowing her to take a paid “LOA” to dodge the fall out is the reason this thing is still going.

I mean, I feel for those that had no part in this, but this is bullshite.

Tatum continued: “Dylan Mulvaney is not under contract with Bud Light.”

The fact that it wasn't a Super Bowl ad campaign is a distinction without a difference. Bud Light knew EXACTLY what it was doing, and it was paying for what it hoped would be a viral ad on the cheap. Using these "influencers" is just an alternative way to advertise...not NOT advertising.

The can is bad because it is man pretending to be a young woman mocking them with outrageous gay man behavior.

But her comments did seal the deal.
