There is absolutely no evidence that Jefferson ever said this, per Monticello library.. This can be your sentiment, if you like. But do NOT attribute this nonsense to Jefferson.

Show us the quote anywhere in Jefferson’s papers. I’ll wait.

From your source:

quote:

The quotation bears a much closer resemblance to Martin Luther King, Jr.'s comment in his famous letter from Birmingham Jail: "One has not only a legal but a moral responsibility to obey just laws. Conversely, one has a moral responsibility to disobey unjust laws."[1]

Figures AggieHank is a racist.

odd melt. His tree of liberty quote is much more incendiary than this one. Disobedience versus open revolution and the former has you in such a lather. Poor thing

racist.
So, in your view, it is “racist” to seek to remedy injustice via legal process rather than via criminal acts.

Whatever you say, chief.

quote:

“I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races … I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races from living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be a position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.”
actual Abraham Lincoln quote. Someone make the meme.
