That was a terrible deal for America. Everybody know those 2 don't know how to make a good deal.

I'm not saying I liked it, but it saved the industry.

And how is the Carrier deal automatically a good deal, even though we don't know how much money was given away?

You're being a Trump fanboi rather than holding him accountable to the same standards as Bush, Obama, or anyone else.

That moron claimed to "save or create" millions of jobs, none of which could be readily identified much less attributed to his policies. Liberals clapped and barked with glee like seals at the circus.

Here, Trump works directly with American companies to save jobs, and those companies acknowledge his influence. Liberals dismiss it without thought.

Allow me to fix this flawed thought.

There will be no tax collection going on once they move. If Indiana gave them a tax free deal, it is still a gain because the state is able to collect taxes on income.

Lets say that hypothetically that this no tax deal is what actually happened. Do you not see how that would incentivize other businesses to threaten to move in order to stop paying taxes?

Look for other companies to now plot a removal of Trump with their capitalists on Wall Street.

Starting now?

Maybe you were sleeping during the whole anti-trump movement and the support wall street maven Clinton got.

I think now is when Wall Street realizes they lost and starts cutting deals and playing ball. They will win in the end (they always do) but Trump will extract some concessions from them.

Look. The liberal just tripped into the reason the corporate tax rate should be zero.

He just doesn't understand why

How will we sustain this pace though? He isn't even really president yet.

Individual income tax is 3.3% of AGI in Indiana. A multi-million dollar incentive deal could easily surpass those tax collections.

Foreign owned businesses open in states and the state does not tax them. Why should that be any different for US owned companies?

Carrier was moving. There is no if and or buts about that. Does that put more taxes in the coffers?

I was being extreme to make a point.

Shouldn't we know the details before we blow Trump for this?
yeah

but we do know that 1000 folks and their families are going to be better off. They will average at least 50k in compensation, and spend it on cigarettes, beer, and all kinds of cool shite. The economic stimulus of 50million being dumped into local economies and govts will be better than a kick in the nuts.

n't wait for the spin. Something something 1000 is only a drop in the bucket

No spin here, but I have a question.

First, an excerpt from an article on today's cnn.com:

The company [Carrier], which is owned by defense contractor United Technologies, announced in February that it would close two Indiana plants -- a Carrier plant in Indianapolis that employs 1,400 workers and a United Technologies Electronic Controls plant in nearby Huntington, Indiana, that employs 700.

That's 2,100 jobs potentially lost.

Okay, so Carrier agrees to retain 1,000 American employees: what about the other 1,100?

I will be one of the happiest people on Earth if in fact all 2,100 employees retain their jobs.

So ... does anyone out there know the fate of the remaining 1,100 American Carrier workers? Can we celebrate the retention of all those jobs, or just 1,000 of them--better than nothing I guess, but still, less than half the total.

You know. I'd rather pay taxes to make sure someone keeps a job than to give someone welfare and food stamps. Atleast they are doing something for my money.

I could do it for no government money: In the first meeting, I'd remind United Technologies that as a defense contractor, they make alot of revenue from taxpayers. If they move the jobs to Mexico, that might not bode well for any future defense bids they might submit...

I know I'm coming across as cold-hearted, but I'd rather my tax dollars not go to either. Welfare recipients should be offered job training and then expected to work. People in areas that are devastated by job loss should be offered training/education and maybe relocation expenses so they can get their lives back on track. But subsidizing jobs/industries isn't a viable long-term solution. It's just another form of welfare.
