Desantis was about to lose to a liberal race baiter until President Trump stepped in. Don’t ever forget it!

It's scary to think how close Florida came to electing a coke-addled freak over DeSantis in 2018.

True.

So what?

And DeSantis is going to win re-election by a much larger margin than Trump won Florida in 2020.

That should tell you something. If it doesn't, well.....

Maybe. Trump first endorsed DeSantis (I think it was somewhat unofficial) in December of 2017. A lot of campaigning went on after that; it's not as if Trump stepped in in October and gave him a 10 point swing.

This is objectively true.

However, it's not even the biggest reason Desantis should quit sneaking around with Karl Rove and the GOPe.

The real reason is that in doing so he is working against his own self interest and the best interest of the country.

Tethering to GOPe money and expectations is an obvious unforced error and is much more concerning that some stupid ill timed remark from Trump.

Even if they succeed in putting Trump in prison, Desantis can't win without Trump's blessing.

If Trump would anoint Kari Lake as his successor, she would make minced meat of Desantis.

Desantis has proved he can govern but he is a shitty candidate. Top Gov? Cringe.

I agreed to correlation, not necessarily to causation.

What?

And ignoring that, do you think she would have a better shot at winning the EC than RDS? Based on what?

It's objectively a hypothetical. He endorsed him almost a year out from the election. DeSantis didn't have the name recognition that far out but we're talking about a state that elected Rick Scott twice; he ain't exactly Mr. Enthusiasm. No question Trump gave him a jump start, but that far out it's just not accurate to say he was "about to lose". In December of 2017 nobody was "about to lose".

There would be no modern Republican Party without Trump.

He took a Republican Party that could barely garner 62 million votes in a presidential election… and grew that to 74 million.

Which is profound!

I love everything Trump has done for this country and will cry like a baby when he passes away.

Wonderful. Trump lost and is old as frick. He also helped cost us both GA Senate Seats. Time to take him out to pasture.

I like Republicans who don't lose elections.

The whole country would have paid dearly for that.
