Why should an extremely wealthy investor (Harvard) only pay a 1% tax?
Well, several reasons. First, usually the money has already been taxed in some form or fashion. Second, there aren’t a ton of universities that have endowments at these levels, so it is sort of pointless.
But regardless of all of that, I don’t see why we are celebrating tax increases in any form on any entity. Period!

These entities are the cause of the college loan debt bubble. I say tax them at 20% and use that for the loan forgiveness or mitigation or whatever else.

Ah no they are not. That would be the, check notes, the Federal fricking government.
So let’s talk about sending them less money, not more.

This will also encourage universities to invest more in research to lower the tax liability.

Need to tax the endowments proportion to the SL delinquency rates and employment rates of the graduates.

This was Trumps plan for funding America University.

Meanwhile, we have states exempting sports players from paying taxes on millions of dollars in NIL.
That’s a state thing not a federal thing.
But I agree with your premise.

That's what we do now.

Yes they are. Let's not pretend they weren't the ones lobbying the federal government to guarantee student loans, and let's so not pretend they aren't still doing that.

One of these is not like the other.

Let’s also eliminate the deductions for charitable contributions.
I always wondered why you had to get a tax break to be forced to be benevolent. If you truly cared, why would you need a tax credit to do it?

This is actually a great idea, they caused the problem, well them and the ignorant adm under obama having fed govt pick up the nut.

Once the fed govt assumed student loans, tuition skyrocketed and nonsense programs were added, both are at fault.

Rates were significantly jacked up to fund WW1. Congress was concerned that wealthy individuals would feel a lot less generous once the government started taking a bigger cut. The charitable deduction was how they alleviated that concern.
