"This" president is different. He is unqualified; not honest; a proven manipulator of the truth; has a history of screwing contractors out of money to save his bottom line; has an ego complex; has a history of failed businesses; has said in the past that if he ran for president he would run as a Republican because they believe "anything"; is a show-man first and leader last; has cost the taxpayers millions and millions on his mostly self serving political travel; loves Muh Russia; says he knows more than his experts; does not know what he does not know; and surrounds himself with baseless people---his kids included.

His presence has empowered morons like Ocasio-Cortez and he has made the USA a laughing stock of the world (not the Ocasio-Cortez does not help us with that distinction as well).

So, America is fighting among itself. Just what Putin wants. We have morons on the left and morons on the right. We have people who cannot think (again, Ocasio-Cortez backers and Trumpsters) and our deficit is going to hurt us sooner rather than later.

We have a large number of people who cannot pay their bills--a sign NOT of a stable economy despite that Trump tells his followers. Funny, he never tells his backers of the deficit---he only says we have the best economy ever---another lie.

So, unless we all support someone who actually knows what they are doing it will only get more problematic--wall or not.

It is not the Republicans who are the problem---it is ONLY Trump. A smart and honest Republican should be able to kick the Dems butts in the next election--that is not going to be Trump. If trump runs we run the risk of a moron dem winning.

He is compromised somehow. One theory I've heard is that his children were illegally adopted.

Im telling you guys, when obama opened the floodgates and told everyone to "police themselves" and have at the ask queries through the NSA system, who knows what was collected on whom. Suddenly Roberts goes soft, dozens of GOP congressmen announce retirement, various branches of govt agencies openly defying the president, lots of wierd stuff.

Tacit ad hom, but you didn’t give me much substance.

What legal mechanism stops President Dem from doing the same thing he next time their pet policy project gets tied up in Congressional gridlock?

58 National emergencies have been declared since the 1976 Act. Including many addressing all sorts of diverse matters like the protection of humanitarian aid workers in Africa. I think the argument that the next President could wield it in some authoritarian way is a red herring. I think the trepidation is that, as far as I can tell, this has not been tested in the courts. I'd think the courts would eventually find this is an Article II prerogative of the President, especially given the powers were given to the President by the Congress in the first place. The case can be made given the recommendations of SMEs at the relevant agencies, i.e., DHS/CBP/ICE.

He did NOT say trump is declaring emergency He says if he did, he would support it. Fairly big distinction.

quote:

President Trump will declare a national emergency to fund his demand to build a border wall, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) announced on the Senate floor Thursday. "I had an opportunity to speak with President Trump and he, I would say to all my colleagues, has indicated he's prepared to sign the bill. He also [will] be issuing a national emergency declaration at the same time. I indicated I'm going to support the national emergency declaration," McConnell announced shortly after 3 p.m. Thursday.

Trump’s best chance for border wall funding at the level he wants came in February 2018, when Republican Senator Mike Rounds teamed up with independent Senator Angus King on compromise immigration legislation.
quote:

It included $25 billion over a decade to build a wall along the southern border
quote:

Amid fierce White House opposition and a veto threat from Trump, just eight Republican senators voted for the bill. With support from Democrats it got 54 votes, but that was short of the 60 needed to advance in the Senate. A separate immigration proposal backed by Trump got just 39 votes.

Are you saying this didn't happen?

he best part is that in his obsession to look apolitical he has made the court even more political. You are a hack if you are changing your views on the constitution based on politics or the court make up. The fact that he has started to regularly join the liberals in decisions since Kennedy retired doesn’t make him noble. It makes him a fraud.

Roberts was and is a Kennedy type Justice.

It was easy to tell that he was because in a democrat controlled Senate he was confirmed
78-22

The democrats were playing like that old Uncle Remus story of Brier Rabbit. "Please please don't throw us in that Briar patch! "

Compare his nomination to the other Republican Presidential Nominations for Scotus since Bork

Alito 58-42
Thomas 52-48
