A good Bible translation (ESV, LSB, NASB) would be first. Beyond that, would he prefer to read something theological, historical, philosophical, biographical, pragmatics?

Historical: "Escape from the Deep" by Alex Kershaw about the USS Tang in WW2.

Philosophical: an easy read that covers a lot of ground is "Refuting the New Atheists" by Doug Wilson.

Theological: "The Cross of Christ" by John Stott

Brave New World

Very relevant today. Books are much much better than the movies.

Blood and Treasure: Daniel Boone and the Fight for America’s First Frontier by Bob Drury and Tom Calvin.

Anything Erik Larson has written is a great read, but especially Dead Wake and The Splendid and the Vile.
