While Imperialism, colonialism, and slave trade are horrible events in African history...the facts are that they all brought higher mortality rates to Sub-Saharan Africa and eventually ended the brutality that was the "law of the jungle" pre-modernization.

Why was sub-saharan Africa lagging behind the civilized world? it wasn't because white people were oppressing them...they had the numbers and "superior genetics". They did this to themselves...a common theme.

That being said, they aren't the only ones....some races of people just "get stuck" in the progress towards actual civilization. Look at the Native Americans....some were peaceful but MOST were constantly at war with other tribes....war for the Natives was different too...It didnt have laws, or rules of engagements...these are the most brutal, almost un-recorded wars in human history.

Native Americans earned the nickname "Savages"....because of their savagery. Force was met with force and the Manifest Destiny of the US moved West using uncivilized means of taking land...but they weren't the only ones being awful...trust me. Read a book.

Whats the difference between the civilized world and Sub-Saharan Africa and Native America? The Agricultural Revolution. Some had it, some didnt.
