In general, I believe our African American brothers and sisters want us to understand their day to day experiences as a minority.
It's important we try to walk in their shoes. Beyond understanding or acknowledgement of our country's past what is going to create change they are seeking from Whites?
what kind of change are we talking about?
Let's get specific because awareness is really just highlighting information.
specifics bring a call to act. What is the act we're being called to do?

I completely understand this. I went to a high school that was 75-80% black. Being white meant getting harassed, having stuff stolen and watching race fights occur on a daily basis.

Yeah, and what they don't get is that their needs are no more or less important than the rest of the general population. Yet the general population is told at every turn that they deserve just that. What they don't get is: they don't deserve shite unless they go out and get it for themselves.

No they don't.
They want us to accept their characterization of life in America uncritically. They want to be able to tell us what "white people" are like while simultaneously telling us we have zero right to even discuss black life in America.

And we've offered advice....stop having 10 kids with no Daddy around. That will lead to a stable home and help you move away from poverty.
But then they yell "RACIST!" and keep doing what they're doing....and nothing changes.
Keep blaming whitey for 19th century problems none of us today know anything about other than what history books tell us.
We "get it" but can't make them change. They just want to keep following the advice of Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson. It's sure gotten them far, I tell ya.
