I used to work for Chase. Based on the information given it sounds like she was trying to open an account. When I was there you had to present two forms of ID. A business card is not a form of ID.

I had a bank refuse to take checks before... I had one for $30k I had to take to the customers bank and cash, then the bank bitched about $30k in cash... I no longer use them. Maybe I should have sued them.

“It was an unfortunate situation. They took my special moment away. I felt like a criminal. I’ve never done anything wrong,” said Dr. Mitchell-Stewart, according to ABC13. “In order to get a Texas medical license or a medical license at all, you have to have a clean record. You have to go to school for so many years, and they just didn’t care. They didn’t respect that. They didn’t respect my credentials.”
“Dr. Mitchell-Stewart showed proof of identification. She showed proof that she was a doctor by presenting a business card. She even called employees from her medical group to confirm who she was,” added attorney Justin Moore, according to ABC13.
Heres what my street smarts tell me.
- Big Check
-Bitch didn't have an account or relationship at said bank
-Came in expecting to just walk out the door with $16k in cash
-Self Entitled because she's a doctor
-Theyve done the exact same shite to me, it was awkward but not racist and completely understandable.

Since the story implies racism, I'm going to have to wait until we get the complete story

So she felt entitled to special treatment either because of her skin color, physician status, or both. Who is smart enough to get a medical degree but not smart enough to know a business card and random people vouching for you isn’t an acceptable form of ID?

What the article fails to mention is that she wanted to open the account using the check but wanted most of the cash back.

I’ll wait a week or so until all the information is out before passing judgement. What history has proven is the entire story isn’t told initially especially in these types of cases.

This is a non story race-baiting article. So many holes in it. They didn’t write Houston Doctor—they write Black Houston Doctor with a capital “B”.
And I do question why someone is finishing their residency in December and not June?

You try cashing checking for anything over $10k any bank will ask questions. They are required by law. It's called a currency transaction report. It's been in place since the 70s...to prevent money laundering.

This is likely what happened. The regulations she thinks are racist are federal regulations. Who is in charge of the federal government? Biden? So Biden is a racist?

Took long enough to touch on this. It is Houston fellas, billions of drug dollars flowing through. Lots of dedicated paperwork when a new person is trying to deposit anything over 10 grand ESPECIALLY is they are a "doctor" and pretty.
Bullshite story, probably wanted some cash back which would not work at any bank even if it was 100 bucks.
Unfortunately most blacks with a degree also have a minor in how to sue for discrimination these days. And far far more racist than your average black.

I’ve been with chase since they bought out Bank One or whatever it was called and have never had a single issue with them. Why all the frick chase posts?
Same for me. I’ve never had any issues in 20 years. They’ve actually been really good about several instances of credit card fraud. We always get our money back, and they send us new cards in the mail that always seem to arrive in 1-2 days.

Residency generally finishes June 30th in all specialties although there are some exceptions, such as transferring to a different one and completing on a different timeline or delayed completion due to remediation/probation or maternity/medical leave. Definitely not very common to finish in December, though.

I needed 2 forms of identification to open a bank account, and I had to deposit money in it at the time of the opening. I was just thankful I had 2 forms of id on me at the time.

I wonder if she had a history of bad credit or account mismanagement/overdraft fees from prior accounts while in college?
I was refused by a bank years ago because I had an old defunct account at a different bank i used in college I forgot to pay off a negative balance of 11 dollars. I had to go pay it before I could open a new account. This was in my transition out of college where I pulled all the money out of the old account and I guess a check hit I forgot about afterward and overdrafted it and I didn’t even know.

My question is, why didn't she go to her own bank? Did she not have one?
That's my question as well. She went ALLLLLL the way through med school and her residency without a bank account?
