I’ve had numerous large checks over the years, such as from selling houses, and had my bank put holds on the money despite having banked with them for about 20+ years. It is the nature of having a large deposit which is coming from another bank, as they don’t want to be left holding the bag if a stop payment comes through.
Not only that but they have to report such large deposits to the IRS.

1) I suspect they told her she would have to deposit some cash to open an account
2) if it was going to be a "free" interest bearing checking account, the cash would have to be for the minimum amount (likely, $2500)
3) the check would be held for at least a week before the funds could be accessed.
These would have been the rules, white or black.

So let me get this straight; a doctor who has not established a checking nor savings at this bank expects this large sum to be accepted?

And throws race card and credential cards at the bank for following SOP.
I’ve had banks refuse to cash a money order for $40 because I didn’t have a relationship with them.

I have several accounts with Chase. The bank I use is a block from my office so I am there frequently and they know me. In spite of this, I still run into issues from time to time with regard to regulations and bank rules they have to follow. They don’t just swing the doors to the safe open for me. And I’m a white guy! How dare they! It’s as if their rules have nothing to do with race and more to do with compliance with rules for their protection!

Don't even think she has to do that.Im sure a rep from the bank (not a teller) woulda been happy to help her open an account even with the check from the hospital.
It's obviously gonna take a while to access the cash but I would think almost bank would want the business from someone making six figures.
None of this adds up
