I think it needs to remain at felony level. There are some people convicted of some petty-assed domestic violence charges. I don't believe all should be prevented from ever possessing a firearm. That is too encompassing and a step toward forfeiting our rights. Don't give the constrictor a chance to squeeze you more.

The U.S. ditched that a long time ago.
Now you're guilty by accusation, as long as the media picks it up and runs with it. You know, If you're a straight, white male you must be guilty of something.

convicted
Yes.
So they should get their other "rights" back less the 2A. Yet the 2A is the only right that says "shall not be infringed".
If a person is not confined, that person must have every right afforded any other.

I thought there was already an ATF rule that covered this.
ATF is about to get neutered. What the forthcoming SCOTUS decision regarding Chevron does not do, SCOTUS will later face the constitutionality of the ATF itself!!

Turns out that the ATF and other unelected bureaucrats don't get to make "rules". Keep up.

Im sure it’ll work. Maybe if these judges would enforce the laws already on the books…

It’s a felony for a convicted felon to possess a firearm in every state. That is sufficient.
Why? There are far more non-violent felons in society than there are violent felons. If a person is walking the streets, that person needs every right afforded any other.
Shall Not Be Infringed.
No Right Is More Important Than Any Other!!

I think you completely misunderstood my point. I’m not against non-violent felons having their rights restored in some circumstances. The point is there is no reason to take away that right from someone convicted of a misdemeanor offense. It opens up Pandora’s box even more on misdemeanor “domestic violence” convictions.

What about those who are falsely accused?

Let’s conduct a little what-if scenario with this proposed legislation.
A conservative with a large collection of firearms becomes popular enough to run for POTUS, and probably win.
Local law enforcement is given false evidence that he’s been abusing his wife. They show up at his door and arrest him. The next day the FBI shows up at his place with a search warrant. They find a large collection of firearms and charge him with multiple felonies.

to be followed by a bill at a later date to redefine "domestic violence" so as to be able to target anyone a corrupt DA wishes to.
In an honest world, bills like the one above and other issues like mental health checks for gun ownership would be deserving. However, government has shown time and again they are not to be trusted with being forthright. Good intentions get hijacked by ideologues and used as a tool to bludgeon any would dissenters.

Civil asset forfeiture, anyone?

Curious on the opinions with this?
Laws don’t stop criminals from obtaining firearms. Never have, never will. This can only hurt law abiding citizens- who are not the problem to begin with.

Non violent felons should be able to exercise their 2A rights.

You so called conservatives disgust me. You're not conservatives at all if you support this. The 2nd Amendment is crystal clear. No interference from the government. If they're not incarcerated then the government has no right to infringe on their Constitutional right to possess firearms.
I agree. I think once a person has served his time, they should be reinstated their rights. If they can’t be trusted then they shouldn’t be released

We cant even enforce laws on the books, we need no more laws.
