quote:OK. Well most graduate students are funded directly by the universities they attend. So that kinda don't make sense. But nevermind. Help me with the big picture - cause and effect. Scientist applies for grant. Scientist is rejected. Scientist applies again. For arguments sake, let's say his application makes it this time. They give him the money, he pays his rearchers, they do the work, then once the money is pretty much all gone, they publish their findings. Suppose the granting agency doesn't like the findings. What then? Where do they get the 1.21 gigawatts?
You are describing a grant letter.

So I did. Must have taken a whole semester of getting through that half page of reading for you.
The takeaway, is the boy lost everything for lying.
Kind of like how we are losing everything (taxes, vehicles that tow, loss of hydroelectric energy so save a few salmon, ability to warm and cool our homes due to environmental restrictions and rolling blackouts) to fight this mysterious man-made climate change. And when it does indeed change (it is, just not at the rate of the liberal hive mind propaganda), we'll not have the resources to fight it. That is the lesson. You get an F.

quote:Mysterious ? Lol. It's not really. Not to most people at least. If it's a mystery to you maybe I can help you out. I gotta warn ya though, it might require some reading, algebra, and maybe a little calculus. If you think you can handle it, lemme know.
mysterious man-made climate change.

You couldn't even get that part right. So no thanks on your high school help.

quote:Interesting premise. If "knowing more about" climate change translates to application of fact within confines of the scientific method, I'd bet you are wrong. I'd bet the degree to which your premise is wrong would surprise you.
Does he probably know more about the topic than most here piling on the guy? 100%

quote:. you gotta forgive me, I tend not to rely on fables to gain scientific insight. Maybe you can come up with a fable that explains the current decadal temperature trend with natural causes? That would be great because no one has been able to do that, so if you could, you and me could write a paper together. I'll do all the writing, you can even be first author!

And if you ever want AGW to be less "mysterious", standing offer, any time, I'll help you understand. If you don't wanna do that work, that's fine, but don't expect everyone else to do the same.

You recall a video on Fox News from 2012. When I asked you for a source, I’m asking for literature, you know, something published either in a book or peer reviewed journal.
Again, you don’t have to spend a lifetime studying something to be the only one who understands it. You can expand your mind by reading and thinking, assuming you can do both.
Lay off Fox News.

He’s not a scientist, and he’s not a climate expert.
He’s no more qualified to discuss climate than any other poster on this board.

That chart, my friend, illustrates a dichotomy between real science and the manipulative politics which you apparently accept as science.

history of thermometers
the accuracy of world wide temp measurements does not suport the uncertainties that are claimed
someone provide a guide of calculating world wide average temp.
how many readings, from what zones? % coverage of the planet required to be accurate? are the readings air temp (at what altitude), ground temp, or water temp?
smoke and mirrors

Nye graduated with his BS in 1977, started working at Boeing.
Started doing standup comedy after work in 1978.
Quit Boeing in 1987, started billing himself as a “science communicator”.
I think it’s fair to say if you took a modern mechanical engineering textbook and put it in front of him, he’d stare at it like it’s Egyptian hieroglyphics.
Absolutely nothing in his background qualifies him to be any kind of expert when dealing with climate change.

Help me with the big picture - cause and effect.
Sure, there are no grants for researching climate change and not having findings of the effects. There are grants, from countless groups including multiple agencies in the fedgov, to study climate change to report the effects.first Google result is EPA, see below
quote:
EPA funds climate change research grants to improve knowledge of the health and environment effects of climate change, and provide sustainable solutions for communities to effectively manage and reduce the impacts of a changing climate. EPA’s supports research focusing on a few important aspects of how climate change affects air, water, the environment and human health: Investigating the impact of climate change on air pollution gases and particles, water quality and ecosystems Understanding the underlying factors contributing to changes air pollution and water quality Using modeling tools to better understand the impacts of extreme events on air and water quality as well as provide better modeling tools to predict air, water and ecosystem characteristics under a changing climate.
Grants = jobs for researchers. If you don’t agree with the premise of the grant, you don’t get a job. In the case of climate change, your career opportunities are severely limited if you don’t “fall in line”.
Once you accept this premise, we can discuss the motivations of grantors. I’ll give you a hint though, it’s to accumulate money and power.
