Where’s the evidence that even studying this might possibly be a “bipartisan” notion or idea in any way whatsoever?
As I understand it, the Commission is not limited to studying a numerical expansion of SCOTUS. Brookings article

Among other possibilities that have been discussed for DECADES is an Amendment for term-limits and/or mandatory retirement of SCOTUS Justices and/or the lower courts. Many on the Right who spent to last ten years insisting that RBG was incapacitated would have supported that notion two or three years ago.

Except the Executive Office issued an official statement that only mentions court packing.

So, back to my question.

I've not seen that. Can you link? All I find is the following from a NYT article:
quote:

In a statement to be released Friday, the White House said the commission would examine “the genesis of the reform debate and the court’s role in the constitutional system; the length of service and turnover of justices on the court; the membership and size of the court; and the court’s case selection, rules, and practices.”
I prefer to look at the enabling document itself, which directs the Commission to:
quote:

produce a report for the President that includes the following:

(i) An account of the contemporary commentary and debate about the role and operation of the Supreme Court in our constitutional system and about the functioning of the constitutional process by which the President nominates and, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate, appoints Justices to the Supreme Court;

(ii) The historical background of other periods in the Nation’s history when the Supreme Court’s role and the nominations and advice-and-consent process were subject to critical assessment and prompted proposals for reform; and

(iii) An analysis of the principal arguments in the contemporary public debate for and against Supreme Court reform, including an appraisal of the merits and legality of particular reform proposals.
That language strikes me as being a significantly-broader mandate for study than mere numerical expansion of the Court, but you can certainly disagree.

RBG was a firm proponent of NOT packing the court.
She said:
quote:
"Nine seems to be a good number. It's been that way for a long time. ... I think it was a bad idea when President Franklin Roosevelt tried to pack the court."

Supreme Court statistics

An argument could be made that the Court is incapable of handling the volume of cases presented and that it retards the Justice system. Neither side should be picking justices at this point though. Idk what the answer is, but status quo is not working for anyone.

They called Trump a dictator. Biden is spending government resources to actually do it.

Are the members of this sort of Commission compensated or volunteers?

Yes, clearly admin costs are paid by FedGov. That is not what I am asking.

I think I mistook what was quoted in the OP linked article as the White House "statement," but it appears it was quoting the NY Times. It only addresses adding justices, though. I haven't seen anything further come out as to this commision focusing on anything else. I guess maybe you can dig around and find some cite to something showing they might be looking to "address" things that are vital republican concerns, and try to pretend anything about this will be "bipartisan." You know as well as I do, it won't be.

I'm shocked.

this is the whole problem with modern politics, complete hypocrisy on both sides.

This is the left basically saying "we're going to condemn this, but you didn't close the loops. So we're going to go as far as we can now and YOU, conservatives, are responsible for stopping the escalation next time. We're going to pack the court, but when you are in charge, you have to stand down and not try to reverse our orders or pack it in your direction. That would be hypocritical. Then we can talk."

Knowing that their move was checkmate unless appropriate response is taken, which will then be hypocritical and so forth.

The left does this to specifically put opposition to their policies in defensive mode. Any response to the Left is "aggression," or "dictatorial," or "authoritarian."

And there is no way out of the trap. And classical liberals take this hook line and sinker and continue to toe the line.

This has been a dream of Democratic administrations since FDR.

The difference now is that the political will is there, to flesh out what was once a pipe dream into a meaningful reality.
