There are two kinds of people who want Robert "Beto" O'Rourke to run for governor of Texas:
Conservatives who understand Texas politics.
Progressives who don't understand Texas politics.
This guy wants to tax churches out of existence. Imagine how that's going to play with Latino and black churches and latinos and blacks are very religious.
He also wants to take away guns...in Texas.
Whether he changed his views on those stances since then is irrelevant because there's enough video out there with him literally saying those things out loud and that is going to be sandblasted into the minds of every voter that's persuadable. It'll clog the airwaves, social media accounts and mailers.

He'll lose and it won't be close like the Senate race was.
Moderate Texans were okay with sending Beta to DC but with Governor it means he stays home and you have to deal with him. The electorate in the Gubernatorial race will swing more conservative than it did in the 2018 blue surge election.
Same reason why Vitter was able to win a Senate race but not a Gubernatorial one. People in Louisiana were okay with sending him away to DC but the retards didn't like it that if he was Governor he would be at home in Louisiana and we'd have to deal with his baggage.
