See, the fact is, Northerners were never approached about their racism - all they had to do was look at pictures of Selma from the 60s and pat themselves on the back about how "not as racist" they were than their southern neighbors. I, OTOH, was shown those pictures and reminded on a daily basis just how racist I was because of where I was born.

This is what I keep saying. Why place the blame of slavery/racism on the whole of the United States, when you can pin it on the Confederacy/South and never have to confront it? Liberals and Northerners are such hypocrites. They would rather beat the dead horse and the dead symbols of a dead cause than examine their own hearts and question why it is that they segregate themselves.

That felt odd to me, because I don't remember being in a situation where I was racist, or anyone else I knew was.

What do you define as being racist? Depending, I think this comment is preposterous.

quote:

In Alabama, he was a novelty. A little annoying at times, but people seemed more genuinely interested in hearing about his practices.

Was he annoying individually or because he was jewish?

quote:

In New Jersey, the moment he left his community he felt the stares and heard the whispered comments.

Jews definitely faced some bigotry in the NE (really everywhere) but again, when this guy was walking the streets, it's preposterous that there were whispers and comments - as if he were some novelty - in the NE.

Some people weren't raised to be racist. Sorry your racism won't allow you to comprehend that.

It's rural vs urban and not geography, IMO.

My liberal BIL from Wisconsin is the most racist person I know FWIW.

However he claims he didn't become racist until he moved to Louisiana.

I guess it is harder to be racist when you do not grow up in a racially diverse state..

No it isn't.

The urban areas are equally, if not more racist, as seen with the continued abysmal segregation of northern/urban schools.

I would say at minimum, they are equally as racist.

What drives me insane is that blacks in this country have never had it better than they do now. I would date a black woman without a second thought. My daughter dates black guys. My son dates a girl with a black child. My other son has black friends. Most in their generation give zero frocks about skin color. Yet despite this, hatred and pushback against the white man seems at an all time high and is getting worse.

I think people have too much time on their hands...portions of the black community and the liberal community, generally, have completely lost their collective minds.

I spent way too much time in Wisconsin over the last year or so. I was dating someone from Wisconsin for a while. Wisconsin has more fricking redneck types than anywhere I've ever been.

The so-called "intellectuals" I interacted with regularly were quick to reveal their bigotry.

I made a similar post to yours in one of the monument take down threads. I was born and raised in integrated Alabama by parents still to this day I've never heard bring up race when discussing someone's challenges/failures/etc.

I was selected for a fellowship in DC during college with students from Yale, Brown, Georgetown, Michigan Honors College, Stanford, etc. I was the only one there from a non premier school. Their assumptions about my upbringing, perceptions of non-Caucasians, etc. were appalling.

These do-good Yankees are the most racist people in this country. They live in lily-white communities in the Northeast and Pacific Northwest where zero interaction between white and black occurs.

These people also need to keep blacks subjugated because they derive power and influence from the inequality. That's why these Yankee whites harp on the Confederate flag or monuments. They don't support institutional changes like ending the drug war or criminal justice reform. They're hypocrites of the highest order.

I've got a friend like this that grew up, and continues to live in, Lake County, IL.

The northern Chicago county is 7% black, has a median HH income of $97,000, and is one of the 25 wealthiest counties in the country.

I'm southern, and I wouldn't necessarily call myself a racist.

I think that I am more aptly called a culturist.

White Europeans who revolted against the feudalism and state run religiosity of Europe that settled in the US created the greatest working form of Government and Society ever adopted by mankind.

While we have made mistakes over the years...Like when we brought in lesser cultures...
We still have a slight chance of turning this shining beacon on the hill around.

yup - this is why most of the racial riots of late have been in places other than the south (Missouri is in the midwest). we worked most our our shite out decades ago.

which is why the USSC was 100% correct to shut down the VRA formula and make them re-formulate to choose which states they subject to preclearance. I think they know that they can't come up with a new formula that won't pull in northern "non-racist" states.
