Usually that means that his wife will take his seat.
It depends on the state and election cycle.
For example in 1972 in Louisiana, Senator Allen Ellender passed away in July. His passing was right in the middle of the election process, right before the Democratic primary. Edwin Edwards appointed his then wife to serve the remainder of Ellender’s term. J. Bennett Johnson was elected in November and Edwards relinquished her seat to let Johnson take over after the vote was ratified November 13.
So it can be almost anyone true governor chooses. It could even be his or her personal secretary or garbage man. They just have to meet the qualifications of the Senate and the state.

This was gaming the system. Johnston had more seniority than the other Senators elected that year.
Mrs. Fetterman would offer continuity as the closest thing to her husband, but they might want to go with a stronger candidate for the special election.

So is the Pennsylvania electorate.

Pennsylvania has precedent for this. Sen John Heinz died in a helicopter crash in April of 1991, and Harris Wofford was appointed to the vacant seat in May 1991. A special election was held in Nov 1991 (Wofford won). Because Heinz’s death happened too late for a primary, the state party committees put forth the nominees.

Last year, Tuberville violated stock-trading rules 132 times.
He has also said it was 'ridiculous' to ban lawmakers from trading stocks.
