BBC thinks there's only one issue in Canadian election. Can you guess what it is?

I mean, trade relations with the US is the most important facet of Canada’s economy. Of course dealing with Trump is their number one issue. How wouldn’t it be?

Why are you surprised?

I can't imagine they have ever described an election as being over a single issue.

That’s also not what the headline you posted said. No one is saying it’s the only issue. Similarly, no one can really say it isn’t the biggest one.

I don’t understand why you don’t understand.

Economic relations with the United States is probably the single most important thing to Canada’s success or failure as a state

Their economy was trash before Trump took office. Better worry about that.

They can vote any way they like, but what's coming next is inevitable.

Funny they think they have to combative.

Why not work with Trump? It could benefit Canada more to do that than throwing a hissy fit

Funny you deduced that. Trump is the one being combative on trade. The person they're looking to take on Trump doesn't have to take a combative stance. He needs to reason with him because Trump is going full retard.

Making the election about Trump was the Labor's only chance. They have ridden a wave of fake patriotism spurred by anti-Trump fervor.

Hilarious and sad that Canadians were so easily manipulated into handing back leadership to the party destroying their country to try to "gotcha" Trump.

I'm not being obtuse. Don't you think it odd that they singled out Trump for a Canadian election?

So they didn’t need a strong leader in the past to take on the US?

Not at all. Again—trade relations with the United States is the single most important thing to the Canadian economy.

Why do you think it’s odd?

The trade relationship between the US and Canada has been largely a stable non factor for a couple generations. So no, it wasn’t a big issue, despite its importance, because it was stable.

Now it isn’t, and the matter is at the forefront. its really not complicated

I mean, saying out loud that Canada is nothing but an economic parasite of the U.S. is embarrassing to Canada.

Why are you surprised at the other poster's reaction?

I'll just concede to your name and move on.

Our relations being the most important thing to their economy isn’t necessarily a parasitic relationship. They are our neighbor, with a fraction of our population, and we have been inextricably linked economically since the 19th century.

The mere fact that it’s important to them should be a signal of our strength, not of their weakness. Canada in its own right has one of the biggest economies in the world.

Because I don’t understand why anyone who ostensibly pays attention to global politics would be surprised that “dealing with the United States” would be important in Canadian politics.
