Baton Rouge Mayor’s Race - largest field in 30 years

Hopefully a sign of buzz around beating SWB.

“In the last three decades, only one mayoral incumbent lost in their first bid for re-election: Bobby Simpson in 2004 lost to Kip Holden, Broome's predecessor. No other sitting mayor since 1988 has even been forced into a runoff, a streak that could be threatened with well-known names in this year's race.
Metro Council members Tara Wicker and Matt Watson seek the mayor's office, as does current state Rep. C. Denise Marcelle and former state Rep. Steve Carter. Businessman Jordan Piazza, lawyer "E Eric" Guirard and political newcomer Frank Smith III also entered the race.
Carter, Piazza, Smith and Watson are Republicans. Broome, Marcelle and Wicker are Democrats. Guirard is an independent.”

Just tell me who the black ones are so I can focus on the front runners.

Can an R actually win BR these days?

Steve Carter would be a great mayor for Baton Rouge. Just sayin.

God help us if she makes the runoff. She might be the only candidate in the race that’s actually worse than Sharon.

I know nothing about BR politics but now I know one of the favorites.

I agree Steve Carter would be great

This is the first I’ve seen Steve Carter running. Has he had a Formal announcement

He’s registered as an Independent (also very MAGA from what I know of him) but if Friday Ellis can unseat Jamie Mayo from the Monroe mayor’s office without a runoff, then I guess anything is possible.

I'm supporting anyone that not stupid enough to leak BRPD's Confidential Informant list to WAFB.
So basically anyone with a pulse other than SWB.

I think Marcelle running is great news, she'll siohon votes from Broome, as will Wicker. It'll be interesting to see how the other side of BR votes.
I was leaning Watson, but I didn't even know Carter was running.

Before the field widened, I was hoping Watson but willing to vote Wicker.
With it being a free-for-all, the only things I know are that I won’t vote for SWB or C Dense Motherfricker.

No. Slipped in at the last hour and qualified. Kept it very close to the vest too. Came out of nowhere.

Seeing how it is a parishwide election, it will be interesting to see how St. George turns out at the polls.

Is he serious or was he put in to take votes from Watson?

He’s 77 going on 78. He’s been around for years.
Does he have the energy to make the changes we need?

Getting out of the goddamn way would be a step up from SWB.

Too many Republicans splitting the vote and we will wind up with two Dems in the runoff. Hopefully not Marcelle and Broome but probably Wicker and Broome.
I’d rather a Watson v Wicker runoff bug I don’t know if Wicker is that strong.
