Sharon Weston Broome’s Tiara

This bitch thinks that being the mayor means she shows up and cuts ribbons. It doesn’t mean administering city services or crime control. I hate This moron so much.

bullshite! I pay the same percentage I did in California. At least there taxes paid for trash and sewerage. I pay an extra $70 a month on top of $250 in taxes.

At least we still have garbage pickup. See Jackson, MS. I can’t wait to see the makeup of the board that oversees the drainage money. Maybe they can just put it under the CATS board?

Property taxes should not exist.

She's welcome to take it out of what I am paying for CATS or BREC.

We were planning our exit, but couldn’t pull the trigger fast enough on a property we wanted just out of reach of this shithole. When things align (interest rates, home values, attractive properties on market) again; we’re out of here.

Y'all can down-vote all you want, but he's right. I agree with the sentiment, however.

Then I'll gladly keep all those pesky taxes that are taken out of my paycheck for myself.

I don't agree with the tax, but suggesting that there are people who live in a dwelling but have no property tax liability is inaccurate. I own rental property. The property tax bill gets passed on to my tenant through his rent; therefore, he is paying property taxes even though he doesn't own the property.

We need to tar and feather the people who come up with these ideas and this crap would stop.

Hysterical whining won't stop flooding.

Neither will taxing homeowners without a plan to actually do something with the money that is presented upfront. Stop allowing development in areas where we know it will flood. Stop allowing development even though developers put in a meaningless retention pond.

I understand the premise.

But if you own property- you pay the property taxes. You are liable for them whether someone is living in your property or not

Ronnie Reagan introduced "user Fees" back in the eighties on all sorts of things.

The money allocated in the budget is not enough to keep up storm drainage much less improve it.

EBR does not have the manpower and equipment to adequately keep our streets, much less our homes from flooding.

Therefore, the new fee that will be used to hire contractors to get the jobs done.

The poster street flooding site in the railroad underpass on college drive. It's been flooding from heavy rainfall for 40+ years. Still not fixed. This could be a better solution than putting up barricades every rainstorm.

There will be no end of this type of work. Old drainage may collapse due to age or being overwhelmed by higher volumes of water. Tree and shrubbery debris will always find a way into the system, unless you remove ALL the trees. Same for trash, dirt and even animals.

If the streets are filled with water, first responders cannot help and that is what I don't wat to happen

It's not that I mind paying for this per se....but

1. It will not be used for what they say it will be used for
2. Didn't they get a lot of federal funding to do a massive clean out of rivers, ditches and drainage at some point after 2016? Where did that money go because they did very little if anything since to address that existing problem and see number 1 above.
3. Are they even smart enough should they attempt to use the money correctly?
4. Are they going to be stopping new construction in areas that will exacerbate flooding into older, lower areas? If not, then no money they collect will do anything of good for those areas.
5. No vote on this is bullshite and they know that, which is the whole point of St. George.
