Again, it was mere speculation on my part regarding what this looks like. Not a comment on the events leading up to this or anything like that.

No they couldn’t. They had the right to keep what military presence they had in Greenland. Anything else required “consultation”. My guess is he’s set up the ability for the US to work on long term projects without the need for such consultation.

It's more "framework" announcements that almost never turn into a full deal
Unless this is what Stephen Miller was asking "why can't we own Greenland" "Denmark is a tiny country with a tiny economy and a tiny military, they can't defend Greenland"
"they claim Greenland because they landed a boat 500 years ago"
Obviously this framework doesn't match the the boasting... just a own goal over a territory protected by NATO. There's nothing in this deal we couldn't get beforehand
