What has Putin lied about exactly? If you read his speeches and interviews he's very specific and to the point. He's a lot of bad things but liar doesn't seem to be one of them. It also doesn't help when our own government lies to our faces over and over about all of this.

I measured the town of Bakhmut with Google World Pro and it is 4 miles from edge to edge. Mighty expensive real estate.

5) rely entirely on western aid
Please, let me know the logic you conjured up in thinking it was wise for Ukraine to hold such "useless" land as you call it.

I would not say I have downplayed Russia at all. They will eventually win as they have numbers. They are refurbishing their more modern tanks (takes time due to optics) and just using their older, mothballed crap in the meantime. It will take our MIC about a year to get producing at the levels that will be needed. In the meantime we are just throwing the Ukrainians our backlog that was going to be disposed anyways. My point about Bakhmut is that it isn't going to do anyone any good while you're in range of someone else's artillery. Sure, it is a travel nexus but the last thing the Russia need to do is lose what trucks they do have to artillery. As you pointed out, the Ukrainians have the same issue. For this to become useful one or the other has to push the other back. This isn't the death knell just yet especially since it is Wagner and not Russian regs. See the Battle of the Tennis Court and you'll get what I think Bakhmut is. I'll reiterate what I have said for months here: Russia will eventually win this war. The point of this is for the Ukrainians to bleed out the Russians in whatever fashion they can before direct conflict with NATO becomes a real possibility. I say this as a Ukranian woman hogs the covers next to me. Even she knows the reality.

That is why it is a strategic blunder to fight for useless land, as you would call it.
Maybe you can concede it wasn’t as useless as they claim. Otherwise, this war will be over sooner rather than later and the Russia centuries old war strategy remains intact.

I don't get the obsession with Bakhmut. seems like Ukraine and their internet simps aren't taking the loss too well.
Western aid was supposed to be for Ukraine to launch an offensive in Southern Ukraine. cutting off the land bridge to Crimea. and it seems that Ukrainians MOD would rather throw the entire Army and equipment into taking back Bakhmut.

I can’t honestly say at this point what the totality of the strategic importance is based on how both sides frame it, but what I can do is measure the forces both committed to the fight.

VZ said himself that he didn't want to lose it because it would be good propaganda for Russia. Spend thousands of lives for propaganda victories.
