Many people fear freedom. They fear allowing people to do things that they themselves abhor. Why do you think we censor radio stations, pass blue laws, ban smoking in public, and outlaw prayer in schools? It's because people don't respect other people. Most people are selfish and only respect their own rights to be a-holes, not the rights of everyone to be an a-hole. A free society, is a dickish society, but so is an authoritarian one. The only difference is that in an authoritarian society, one dick or a small group of dicks decides what every Tom, Richard, and Harry A-hole can do with their every day lives. You trade everyone being dicks to each other for a small group of dicks being uninhibited dicks to everyone.

As you should, and you would be acting as a much more effective regulatory instrument than the government ever could, because you wouldn't be keeping people out with arbitrary rules and expenses, but you'd be petitioning people to use the most powerful regulatory instrument of all (one that's more powerful than voting); your business. Their existence. Unlike the government, it's not mandated.

This law does just that, yet you compared it to Jim Crow

Way too many dicks in there.

I asked a friend of mine who decried the concept of being allowed to discriminate a simple question. What if someone from Westboro intentionally found a bakery owned by a gay man and requested a "God Hates figs" cake for a function of theirs. And, this baker happened to specialize in baking for private functions. Shouldn't the gay baker have the right to say "no thanks"? I think he should have that right.

That's what this law allows you to do. If this law did not exist, you and all of your friends would unknowingly be keeping that homophobic bigot's business afloat.

Why am I not surprised that you are okay with discrimination?
This is a fallacious argument. Opposition to policy does NOT equate to opposition to ideals. I haven't seen anyone stand up in this thread and claim that discrimination is an objectively "good" thing. In fact, most people here who are opposed to your position seem to oppose the idea of discrimination. But that doesn't mean the government has the right to tell people what to do with their own property.
I see you constantly defend a woman's right to have an abortion because, ultimately, it's HER body and HER choice. There are people, GOOD people, who have strong moral convictions and believe that abortion is wrong. But you take the position that because it isn't their body, it's not their choice. Why should you, or anyone, dictate to whom a property owner chooses to cater?
If someone is discriminating, protest them. I'll join you, for that matter. Discrimination on the basis of race, sex, etc. is reprehensible. That property owner ought to go out of business. I just don't believe in using outright government force to accomplish that end.

Just when you think the tie elf public favor might turn against the Dems.
Pubs go and do something like this.
This law looks terrible.

This afternoon, on a party-line 17-13 vote, Republicans in the Arizona Senate bucked the national trend and gave final approval to SB 1062, a GOP-led bill that would create a special "right" to discriminate against LGBT people on the basis of religion.
Oh Arizona you are always entertaining
We will see if Grandma Jan has the good sense to veto this disaster.
So you're saying a person should be forced to participate in an act that he/she finds morally wrong?
