Dems will mutter "well, shite ..." under their collective breath. They want nothing more than for this bill to become another distraction from the real issues in an important election year.
Wait...what? I thought the Dems were working hard on helping the poor become middle class and strengthening the economy?

Um, private business can discriminate against whoever they want. Ever saw that sign "we reserve the right to refuse service to anyone". Sorry if that offends you. It's called freedom to operate a business the way he/she sees fit. If you really have a problem with it, then the market will dictate it's success.

It is a matter of law and equality. You cannot discriminate in the matter of public access. You cannot say you do not serve blacks or Polish. However, it is your right not to carry any products that certain groups would want (Stupid business). it is Hobby store's right not to sell Chanukah stuff. it s Chik Fil A's right to mandate all franchisees close on Sunday just as it is B and H electronics right to close Saturday.
When I am hiring nurse, I cannot say that I do not hire Phillpino or African nurses or for that matter male nurses.
Right. So you're saying a baker has to sell a cake to a gay person however the baker is not required to sell the gay person a gay cake because he doesn't carry an inventory of gay cakes?

I'm trying to see this from your point of view, but I'm just not getting it. Can you explain to me how it gets out of hand?
I'm not being facetious, I'm trying to be open-minded.

Why the hate of affirmative action?
I despise affirmative action and that is well documented on this board.

you really made the jump to Uganda and thier constitution. so what your telling me is you are in favor of the death sentence for homosexuality?
Hey buddy...my niece is gay, born that way. So was my Aunt; but she married and raised a family because this community was like Iran, back then...there were no homosexuals here. Both are/were fine folk, and anybody that tried to execute them by Law...would have to kill me too.
I am saying that prudent government stays out of the bedroom, I.e., Religion...in this case. Because once Government does step over the Religion line...it can cut either way...if the majority thinks so.
My fear is this...if/when this Nation gets whacked - by civil unrest, EMP or terrorist attack - they will do just what they did on the relatively unhurtful 9-11......head to church. Big time. And if the pain is severe and prolonged, the scapegoat and witchhunts will start, to remove the moral 'offenders' and turn the country back to god. That is historical, predictable and documented human nature, when traumatized people faced with death, rise up.
The precedent we should set in order to avert such, is one of the recognition and deference to the Constitution, as in Original Intent. Government stays OUT OF RELIGION (religious concepts/ideas); makes no laws therein. Leave the folk alone. So the Gays get their feelings hurt. Beats the hell out of the real thing. Let the Good Lord sort it out in the next life, if there is one.
A handful of high-minded and arrogant individuals with the power of Government behind them is a dangerous scenario.
Oh well. We are only going to argue to impasse. I've got to squeeze my naval oranges for the freezer.
Good luck.

Once again, this bill as written, gives any business owner the right to refuse service to anyone based on anything they decide.
If I don't like gingers...great...it's against my religion to seat you in my restaurant.

The current system involves government force for one side. You believe that this proposed system involves government force for the other side.
Where is the middle ground, where the government is involved? There has to be a situation where there is no governmental force for either side. That is the system I'd like you to describe for me.

Can you quote the pertinent part of the bill supporting your claim, please?

Now you on the other hand, your hatred is easily documnented in this very site.

As I said in the other thread.
The status quo is fine where it's at.
You want to be a racist frick in your business.
Then you get to take your chances in the courts if the party you are being a racist with decides to sue you.

Are not country clubs discriminatory businesses? I mean they discriminate against the poor with their high initiation fees. Why I want to play golf at Augusta too.
if i remember correctly, the exceptions to public accommodation in these kinds of laws include private clubs and churches.

Shouldnt businesses have the right to refuse service to anyone they see fit, and suffer any consequences as a result?
Instead of whining and bitching why don't these drama queens support businesses that support their cause?

Cool.
If I'm a ginger, I have a lot of other options as to where I spend my money. And you may be poorer for it, but you'll have your principles.
Sounds like win-win to me.

So this is what the gay mafia is up in arms about? From the bill:
quote:
"Exercise of religion" means the PRACTICE OR OBSERVANCE OF RELIGION, INCLUDING THE ability to act or refusal to act in a manner substantially motivated by a religious belief, whether or not the exercise is compulsory or central to a larger system of religious belief.
