Even before the fed took over the student loan program, it was still regulated by the government. A FAFSA still had to be filled out.
So even if banks still doled out student loans, how exactly could they fix any student loan crisis? Stop giving out federally controlled loans? "I'm sorry Mr. Student, but there is a student loan crisis, thus we can't make a loan to you."

By only handing out loans to majors that have market value post graduation or have sliding interest rates based on post graduation market value.
Of course, Auntie Maxine would then drag them in there and ask them why they're not providing low interest loans for students majoring in social justice and black liberation theory.

I'd wager every penny to my name she couldn't pass a 4 option multiple choice intro to business finance exam--I'm not talking final exam either, just the first one that covers how to read financial statements and the like.
