Piggybacking just a bit on Lucky Tiger’s thread. I remember some time last summer Lucky and I agreeing that despite the hipsters Little Five Points was a cool place to hang at one time with a laid-back vibe and some great bars and restaurants.

I’m down in Newnan for work right now and I drove up Sunday with a buddy to eat at Fox Brothers. Afterward we went to Little Five Points and walked around for a bit. It’s more of a militant vibe now. Black Lives Matter signs in many of the store fronts. There was one menacing looking guy walking around with a baton. As my buddy and I were walking down the sidewalk he was coming toward us. Plenty of room between us and the edge of the street but he just seem to be veering over toward us. So I glanced at him as he walked by and then looked back again and he was staring us down as he was walking away. I just kept staring back at him.

The mask enforcement is downright suffocating. Criminal Records had a long explanation of how they were going to “digest” the new CDC ruling. It was posted eight times in the store front along with multiple signs saying masks required. Walking in, the long hair hippie mask Nazi was saying be sure your mask is covering both your mouth and your nose, and be sure to use that hand sanitizer there on the table right inside. It was a joke. I spent two months out in California in February and March and Little Five Points was more totalitarian on masks than anywhere I went in California.

I really have to say I was not surprised at all. Kinda expected it. I used to love Little Five Points. frick that place now. I don’t ever need to go back.

What the frick is there to digest?

I was in downtown Atlanta when LSU played Oklahoma in the semifinal game and that will be my last trip to that area I will make. Absolutely nothing there but potential bad things happening to you. Not worth it.

People get off on telling other people what to do. It’s hard to digest losing that ability apparently.

Democrat run cities, man. I won't go to New Orleans unless I have business there. Wife wanted to take the kids to tue aquarium this past weekend and I nixed that idea real quick.

Wearing a mask and pretending to be terrified of COVID has become a part of these people’s identities. It’s no wonder they have to “digest” that their heroes are ditching the fantasy of their muh new normal.

L5P hasn’t been worth walking around in for 20 years.

I actively drive around , not through it, even in the day time.

Little Five Points needs to suffer the consequences of losing business for their stupid mask rules

About the same damn way. Only thing about New Orleans for that national championship game weekend was the absolute show of Police force (state and government)that was present all over the that area around the dome and French quarter. No way it is like that now. So to answer your question again, yes I feel the same way. In fact I have a whole list of cities across the US that I flat arse don’t need to go to anymore. Two have been mentioned. Newark, Philly, Seattle and portland to name a few others I have had to travel for business to their downtown areas and each has its own level of giving you a real sense of uneasiness. Again just not worth going to. To many in those locations just looking to start trouble. Maybe that element had always been there and my young dumbass just didn’t see it years ago But I do now

I remember walking out of the stadium with family and all the fans. There was a group of 50 black people, standing on the sidewalk looking for 1 person to say something or look at them wrong. Didnt think much beyond that felt strange and seemed off. Considering what followed in all of 2020, those are the people and group that got funded during last summer, and who the woke corporate American is now bending the knee.

I used to live in L5P. Well, Inman Park technically. I always preferred Wax n Facts to Criminal anyway. Wonder what level of mask fascism they're enforcing. Was always just a couple of older, middle aged dudes working there, I assume the owner(s). Never seemed to be part of the woke crowd in there, just laid back Gen Xers running their shop.

Said it before and I'll say it again. Seems I got out of there at exactly the right time, though. Hate that my hometown has become what it is, but it makes me happy about the decision to leave.

We travelled up from south GA to Decatur three weeks ago to play soccer and the mask scene blew me away. I felt like I had literally stepped back a year in time to when Covid first started . It was surreal to say the least.

Same with the BLM signs in well manicured lawns in Avondale & Decatur. I assume a lot of these belonged to White folks. Nuts.

My sister lived off McLendon in the 90s when she worked at CNN. Used to love visiting her just to go to the Kingston Grill for some jerk chicken.

My grandparents lived in NE ATL. I spent many a long weekend in that part of town, and many days and nights at Fulton County Stadium watching my beloved Braves. I loved that city most of my life.

Don't know if I'll ever visit it again short of driving past it on 285. It's a shame.

Same. Have scores of lifelong friends there. Absolutely no current interest in going back to visit.

Why do you patronize small businesses that probably hate you?

Exactly.

I wouldn't even considering spending money in a place like that.

Little different than giving money to BLM.

Pretty much the prevailing theme in the replies here. And it’s correct. It’s a damn shame!
