This is true people seem to lump Downtown (which is a shithole) in with Midtown, Buckhead, etc. Those are three distinctly different areas and are not the same. I can't tell you the last time I went Downtown for anything there is no reason to anything I need is in Midtown.

Same. Been in the city for 16 years and have never had a problem. The Northeast parts of the city (Inman Park, O4W, Morningside, Virginia Highland, Druid Hills, Candler Park, Poncey Highland, even Cabbagetown and Reynoldstown) are perfectly safe and have a lot of amenities. APD calls Zone 6 'Mayberry' because there isn't much going on really compared to the war zone that is SW or NW Atlanta. Heck even the local schools have become desirable and improved in this part of town. Home prices and desirability in the area are still through the roof.

Prior to minorities from coast to coast losing their collective mind last summer this city was perfectly fine, or at least no worse than any other major city. Then the minorities did their thing and the local govt didn't GAF and there ya go. Where I live though didn't see a single riot, broken window, or issue regarding any of the crap the left has stirred the last few years.

Agreed. I live in Buckhead and do most of my hanging out here or Cumberland or Roswell now. I stay the frick out of severely overpriced Midtown and the shitty areas.

Atlanta is what you make of it. Go to the shitty areas, you're going to see the epitome of Democrat incompetence. Stay in the nice areas, you're going to have a good time.

Exactly. Threads like these are literally the exact same as the tourists that visit bourbon street and then are appalled at what they see and then talk about how big of a dumpy crime ridden shithole new orleans is. Meanwhile the people that live in the "normal" part of new orleans are like...uhh, what'd you expect dude?

I do admit and said it earlier that things definitely took a downturn last summer due to all that shite, but Atlanta as a whole is still fine. I mean I don't ever venture below I20 anyway, or really anywhere near downtown. The places I go are back on their feet and doing well. The only reason I have to move from where I am, which will probably be in 5 years or less, is for schools for my little one. But it's comical to see outsiders lump atlanta in with portland, minnesota, and other hellholes that are truly being overrun by filth. They ahve no clue what they're talking about.

KLB has been a lousy mayor, but she isn't in the league of a de Blasio, Lightfoot, Wheeler, Cantrell, or Bowser in terms of trash (low bar, I know).

Don't think that was ever the case but I have no problems taking it to the airport or events at MCB.

MARTA sucks and was poorly laid out and designed. Its almost if they catered it to people who don't work instead of people that do work and would use it if there were more strategically placed stations. With Uber there is no reason to even use it to go to the airport or Mercedes Benz anymore.

Live in Woodstock. Love it out here.

Buckhead and South is a dump and Roswell has better restaurants anyway.

Used to go to Lakewood 15 years ago but Verizon Amphitheater gets better events cause all the money has moved North out of Fulton.

Only thing that would make Atlanta better would be an airport like OHare in North Georgia. Then Atlanta would finally die the proper death it deserves.

^^^ look everyone another know-nothing that thinks he knows everything!

From where I live if I wanted to go to the airport anything between 7am-7pm it's be a ~45 minute uber ride at who knows how much money, and that's assuming relatively good traffic. Wreck or construction at rush hour and it's well over an hour. Opposed to taking marta where it's about 35 minutes with zero traffic and costs $2.50

So yeah, there actually is a reason to still use it.

do you think if you went to the vortex at 1pm on a Saturday afternoon you'd be a potential murder target?

Sorry but my company pays for my 10 minute Uber ride to the airport. Sucks to be you I guess? Covid has pretty much killed the traffic issues as well. I have to drive from Inman Park to Suwanee once a week and traffic has been a joke going on a year now. You must be way out in the burbs somewhere with those ridiculous times.

I get what you're saying but generally disagree. Arguably the worst decline in the entirety of Atlanta is the Buckhead commercial district. Atlanta's problems have bled heavily into Midtown and Buckhead, and there are very few suburbs that are either steady or improving. Most traditional suburban areas are on a pretty stark decline.

If you aren't in the Grady cluster (now Midtown High) the schools suck.

Edit: some will say the North Atlanta High cluster is ok but I wouldn't use those schools other than the Elementary school.

Yep. Like telling private businesses how they should operate.

HOW DARE THEY TELL THEM NOT TO BAKE A GAY WEDDING CAKE! They should be able to do whatever they please! ...unless it "suffocates" me with an inconvenience so hazardous that doctors and nurses have suffered on a daily basis for decades.

I'd definitely argue that North Atlanta has the best elementary schools.

I'd also send my kids to NA over Grady (but in reality wouldn't use either).

North Atlanta has a great elementary school but it isn't as good as Morningside Elem or even Springdale Park. Grady cluster is now majority white and has brand new state of the art Middle School (Howard) and Grady is currently undergoing renovations and being expanded. People simply aren't aware of the changes and demographic shift in the Grady cluster. Its staggering. Meanwhile all those 'great' schools out in the burbs are trending the other way and getting worse by the year. Illegal Immigration is killing schools in Gwinnett and Cobb.
