If you love cheap labor, sure.

If you want wages to rise at the lower levels, no.

so the jobs are good enough for illegals to work, save money to send back home , and live but not enough for Americans to live on? The problem is we have taken the pride from poor people in America. My mom grew up poor she talks about how people don't know how to be working poor. they just sign up for assistance and become govt poor. You work hard and one day your not poor anymore.

I did as well.

There once was a belief that you shouldn't be dependent on public money. That's how poor people lived and worked their way into the middle class. Todays working poor are an entirely different breed.

I’m calling bullshite on this.

Why? The vast majority of manual labor done in the agriculture sector is done by immigrants. OP answered his own question by saying the vast majority of Americans are lazy and do not want to do manual labor. Hence why college degrees are becoming less valuable. Everyone is trying to get a degree so they dont have to do manual labor. And the ones who dont have a degree suckle at the tit of the government to avoid manual labor. Just the way it is man.

with everyone that says "illegals do the jobs we refuse".... THIS above is the actual problem.... it's not that anyone refuses, we have a huge group of people in this country that will NOT show up to work on time and quite a few that think coming to work higher than a Georgia pine is a great way to drive a forklift.

Can these farmers afford to raise wages and be competitive with other countries?

The immigrant workers take so much more pride in their work go above and beyond to get the job done to perfection. They don't have to have baby sitter in order to get a job done right
they also aren't on their phone all the time

The few American s that I have make 50,000 + a year so I don't believe money is the problem.

Why do American s suck arse at work. Take no pride in anything and are lazy as hell. I'm not just talking about all the ebt Democrats either. Seems like the vast majority of Americans suck.

Fixed it for you

Sounds nearly identical to a large crawfish processor I know in SW Louisiana including the paid vacation part. Plus I’m told by him he has some H-2Bs that approach the $15-20 per hour rate.

He also told me he has local domestic citizens that come to him willing to work on a continuous basis, but only if off the books and for cash, because they refuse give up EBT, Sec 8, or other government payments they receive. Of course he’ll have nothing to do with that as he runs an honest business.

But crawfish being a seasonal business he can’t employ a full work force 12 months a year, so that plays an an important role the labor force that is willing to work for him.

I would rather give this money to people who are going to stay in the country and spend it here and pay taxes here

I mean people may not like it but it is very true. It's hard to get reliable workers in labor. I paid well and was a very easy boss to work for and my turn over was huge. I'd either lose good workers to going and doing their own thing, jail or prison, moved suddenly, or just decided to be lazy and go on government assistance.

Spanish guys do work hard...and they are easy to instruct. It's not a myth, they are amazing workers.

I had a contractor with seasonals doing forestry work - they're paid the prevailing wage for forestry work for the area - prevailing wage for my area was $15/hr 2 yrs ago. Americans can do these jobs as well but won't.

Yep. Ask any roofing contractor or painting contractor. I have two friends that own those types of businesses and they can't hire Americans. It's just a fact.

It ought to be easy as hell to come here, work, and pay taxes. However, that doesn't entitle you to citizenship, free healthcare, free education, free housing, etc, etc. Free trade includes not only raw materials and finished goods, but also labor.

Anyone that downvoted this thread has never worked outside of a cubicle.

It’s hard to swallow, but it is the truth.

You’re going to get a shite-ton of downvoters, but when it comes to agriculture, this is definitely a big issue.

shite, go ask the Directors of Public Works for County and city governments in the Permian Basin about that. They find someone who can operate a backhoe, show up to work on time, and not be drunk or high half the time...oilfield hires them away within 3-6 months.
