What if someone doesn’t want to live in the housing? Do you give them the monetary equivalent instead or is it live in the sharecropper camp or no job?

Government should never give benefits to illegals, period.

And yet they do once they have documentation on wages, and that gets lined up with benefit charts.

People hire foreigners because hey can't hire enough native born that can keep a job more than a few weeks.

Because they pay wages so low that no one wants the job, knowing it won't cover home, family, kids, groceries and other expenses. Would you take a job knowing it meant you would need a 2nd job/govt assistance to get by? These very low wage jobs attract illegals because they KNOW it means a "foot in the door". To pretend otherwise, or attribute it to "Bernie-like supporters", is foolish.

One would be dumb to take the equivalent. Unless They need their W2 to prove worthyness.

I haven't taken a raise on paper in 12 years and have no intention of starting.

My sharecropper work apartment is 900 a mo, truck, fuel, and paid not to take health insurance plus the insurance and maint on the 2500 I drive.

Me and the owner of the company are the only ones that really know what I make. It only hurts me sometimes on credit but I'm fine with that.

Maybe. I worked summers as a kid 30 years ago on a horse ranch and they had hands who lived on site. My memories are that you wouldn’t want to raise a family there. It was more or less a work camp for single dudes.

I’m just trying to understand the point of this thread (other than to bitch about lazy kids). It sounds like his labor needs are being met. That he’s doing so at a rate less than he could do if he hired only Americans (despite likely misclassifying the ones he does hire as exempt employees). I think the biggest problem with farm labor is likely as much related to the urbanization of America as the laziness of Americans. Most rural communities have few young people and that’s who this job sounds like it would attract.

Cut benefits and they will.

Paying 11-15 dollars for ag work isn't low. That's actually a damn good job in most rural areas.

Covered under his burden on payroll.

And you can multiply that times 1.33 for his burden and he is paying almost 32k per year for that employee.

Sir you are welcome to come to my farm and take over running the labor force and day to day operations. We can document your trail. After a month or so THEN we will revisit your views on running a farm.

Anyone that runs a company which requires manual labor outside in the elements will tell you that a reliable labor source is their number one issue currently and it's only getting worse. In our area anyone that is half way reliable and can pass a drug test is working out in the field for O&G and making crazy wages that construction companies can't match and still be competitive when bidding jobs. I can't blame the men for going out and getting theirs but it sure don't help our situation.

Cato found for long-term dependents, welfare actually pays pretty well. The study examined the package for a single mother with two children, who could use programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families; Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (food stamps); Medicaid; housing assistance; utility assistance; and Women, Infants, and Children.

The results? Recipients of this assistance earned more than the average pre-tax, first-year wage for a teacher in 11 states and more than the starting wage for a secretary in 39 states. This means welfare beneficiaries could make a better living off public assistance programs than they would working full-time jobs at minimum wage in many states — prompting the study to infer that many are likely to choose welfare over work should this trend continue.

Houses never had roofs, chickens were never raised, food was never cooked or packed, houses were never cleaned, and produce was never picked until illegals came to take care of us...amirite?
