IQ testing is generally used for GT screening. I believe in most districts the cut-off is around IQ 130, which also happens to be the Mensa cut-off. (Top 2%). Some districts may require more than an IQ score, but IQ is generally the predominant factor.

It has been known for decades that blacks score about 1 standard deviations lower on IQ tests (on average) than whites and Asians. The average Asian IQ is around 105, the average white IQ is about 100, whereas the average black IQ is 85. Again, this is well known within the psychology community but rarely talked about.

So it stands to reason that fewer blacks will make the cut-off for GT programs. There is nothing unusual about this considering the well known 1 standard deviation lower average. The left doesn't seem to understand the Bell Curve and basic statistics.

There are blacks out there, of course, who would qualify at the cut-off. If they are being neglected that's wrong and should change.

In any case, this is the same reason they want to do away with the SAT/ACT. Both are nothing but IQ tests (they used to be real IQ tests prior to the 90's when they started dumbing down both tests). Some minority groups score lower on these tests just as they do on the WAIS or other standard IQ tests. Regarding the SAT/ACT, Asians are #1 with whites coming in 2nd. Latinos are generally 3rd with blacks trailing the rest.

TL;DR - The left doesn't care about science, all they care about is dumbing us all down in the name of "equity."

Note how they keep using that word.
This perfectly describes the premise of ending gifted and talented programs.

No, it's around 120. In most districts a cut off of 130 would lead to 1 or 2 kids per class. The vast majority of students in an average school are between 90-110. It's not an even curve. It's a bell curve.

IQ tests are fairly flawed and those studies on 'racial' IQ were debunked. Scientists found that IQ tests are largely based on your environment - in Kenya, median IQ rose by 25 points between 1984 and 1998 because nutrition, health and parents' educations improved. It's not talked about because a lot of the people doing those studies have an agenda in mind so they twist and manipulate data. If you control for nutrition, parental income, and parental education, IQ gaps become much, much smaller. This suggests that it's much more of a environmental thing than a genetic thing.

I scored a perfect score on the ACT. But it was largely rote learning. In the section about science, you just had to read quickly. In the section about grammar, you just had to memorize patterns. I started off with a score of 24 and turned it into a score of 36. It was just brute learning, it's not really an IQ test.

Huh?

I definitely don't have a giant brain and I don't have a housemate. I was making the case that it's the opposite. It was literally just brute learning of patterns. Getting a good score on the ACT doesn't require a giant brain - it's just technique and spotting patterns (which anyone can become good at if they bother to try).

I had access to resources that most people probably don't use. There were entire tests on the internet that you could use to practice on.

I hate alters with the heat of a thousand suns.

You are an alter douche that hasn't the grapes to stand by past posts.

Otto or not.

The public school system is designed for the "average" student.

Those who are gifted and talented (and, likewise, those with learning challenges) have rarely done well. The best example in American history is Edison: he was on BOTH ends of the spectrum (talented, but had trouble in school due to being nearly deaf). This is where homeschooling helps (and for Edison it did, history bears that out).

This is pretty comical. You complain about alters yet ignore why they exist.

There are so many alters because the mods ban people who are liberal. You can't really complain about alters when they only exist because the board bans people who aren't conservative.

Me for one?

Account got put into 'post quality review' even though the quality of my comments weren't any less low quality than other peoples'. It was never removed from 'post quality' review.

So you've really got no right to complain about alters when they exist for a reason.

A plan announced by New York City's mayor to phase out elementary school gifted and talented programs in the country's largest school district — if it proceeds — would be among the most significant developments yet in a push that extends from Boston to Seattle and that has stoked passions and pain over race, inequality and access to a decent education.

This is why your mayor should have absolutely NOTHING to do with the local school system. School boards should be entirely independent of any city governing body or person. I remember a few years ago some goober ran for MP of EBRP claiming he was going to "fix the schools." He had to be reminded the Mayor-President has zero say in how the schools are run in East Baton Rouge Parish. That's one thing we actually do right in this parish. Our school board is relatively dysfunctional at times, but at least the Mayor's Office can't meddle in their affairs.

Oh, I'm not too bothered lol. You know exactly why alters are created so it's hilarious that you pretend otherwise.

You can RA it all you want.

Well, in any case, my comments weren't any less low quality than others so it doesn't make sense that I'd have been put in 'post quality review' for any other reason than being liberal.

Hence, people create alters.

No, they've been proven accurate for over 70 years now.
They are not PC so the debunking always occurs and it's always wrong.
ACT scores are irrelevant to IQ. IQ is capacity of the bucket. Test scores from HS measure how much stuff is in the bucket.
IE, a kid with an IQ of 140 who is lost in a plane crash in Africa (Tarzan) will be unable to read and write by age 20 after being raised by baboons. But his IQ is still 140. That's environmental impact.
But a kid with an IQ of 80 who is raised by doctors will still be an idiot at age 20.
