Precisely. I posted this in the This Is Us Season 5 thread about last night's episode, but it bears repeating due to your spot-on analysis:

I judge people I encounter as individuals. However, generalizations about groups are completely legit.
Stereotypes are not purposeful ways to insult groups. They are formed by observation over a long period of time.
The Irish stereotype is that they drink too much. I've had 3 close Irish friends in my lifetime. Did they all drink too much? Hell, yeah.
