that's just one immigrant and his bad decision doesn't reflect on anyone but that immigrant. The problem is the person not the system. A majority of immigrants are great law abiding citizens.

Not many of them are like the one today. Many if not most of them are shootings between two adults that just happen to take place on a school or university campus.

There are several answers I can give here, that are valid and logical. But I will point out that your "lethal weapons" comment is definitely one of those slippery slope comments. There's nothing to correlate more crime with asylum seeker application rates that I'm aware of.
Especially with recent reduction in crime trends and the purported rise of immigration.

For starters, prosecute criminals. Identify the areas where gun violence is the worse and deal with it. We all know the slums in the big cities where this happens.
Make it easier for law abiding citizens to carry guns and shoot back at the criminals.
