Just your daily "AOC is a dumbarse" reminder.

quote:

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez made some bold claims in her latest Instagram Live video, suggesting millennials and Generation Z are better "informed" and more well-versed in history than past generations — and, apparently forgetting about the turbulent '60s, are the first "willing to go to the streets" and challenge their government. The New York Democratic congresswoman, who at 29 is a millennial herself, in a video that streamed live Tuesday night described how she thinks today’s young people are surpassing past generations.“I think young people are more informed and dynamic than their predecessors,” she said.“I think this new generation is very profound, and very strong, and very brave, because they’re actually willing to go to the streets,” she said. “Previous generations have just assumed that government’s got it.”Of course, this overlooks perhaps the most turbulent period in modern American history, the 1960s, which was marked by political protests over the Vietnam War, civil rights and more.

I'm a borderline millennial/Generation Z myself and I think that my generation is among the most informed ever but also the most ill informed. News is gathered via MSM Facebook posts and most millennials believe stuff (i.e., Drumpf is a racist, homophobic, xenophobe, sexist) and have no basis to support the claim.

What would she call the generation that fought in World War 2? A bunch of pussies?

The Civil War was the ultimate "taking to the streets" move.

What about willing to go to the beaches of Normandy and Iwo Jima?

The truly internet generation, which is what you're describing, is the first era where people never had to struggle for information.

I believe the result of this is that they have an extremely surface level understanding of that information. They know more than most, and I sincerely believe that, but lack the "ah ha" moments humans of previous generations acquired through struggle. They don't understand the implication of things. They aren't precognitive enough.

With the age of the internet I would certainly say this generation as a whole is more informed. However we certainly aren't the first generation to protest although the video in the tweet is edited

No they don't. They may indeed have more "facts", but they don't "know" more.

Well, it isn't like the US started out as a protest over the government or anything.

Actual informed millenials took on the government in 2016 by voting for Donald J. Trump. But I don't think that's what the white Hispanic bartender meant.

Just because they can search on Wikipedia doesn’t mean they have critical thinking skills. They have none. It’s appalling.
