Only way to stay in Georgia and get away from it is to go super rural
that isn't so and I know it because, as noted, I live in a county in the greater metro Atlanta area that is mostly rural but also fairly progressive.
well, I guess it depends on what you want to get away from.

Not completely true. I’ll be taking my black child with me.

have you had conversations with these people that make you uncomfortable or did you watch to much fox news recently?

Well, in actuality, you stated that you wanted to move to a “predominantly white, conservative rural state”. I think that statement sums up what your intentions are. Am I wrong?

We just moved out of California. Right now we are in Northwest Arkansas
Unfortunately north Arkansas is getting quite a few California transplants

He said super rural not rural. I doubt he’s referring to the greater metro area.

And I told you you weren’t completely correct and why. Am I wrong?

We did this. We lived in Atlanta. Since the Olympics it has become the Detroit of the South. The rest of Georgia is fine but Atlanta and surrounding areas is terrible. So, we moved to Colorado in 2013 and have not regretted it. There are plenty of good Southerners here. The black people who live here are good folks and I have no issues with them at all. Trust them 100% like I would anyone else. People here are less dramatic and less high-strung. I swear your blood pressure will go down 10-15 points within 6 months. Life is good here. Unfortunately we have too many Californians here but they tend to stay in Denver or Boulder which is fine with me. It's expensive compared to Atlanta and other Southern areas but it's worth it.

I am convinced our divide is urban (inner city) vs. non-urban. I think residents of Birmingham and Atlanta and have more in common with citizens of New York City and Los Ángeles than they do with their suburbs, like Hoover and Marietta, respectively. Having met people from upstate New York, I definitely have more in common with them than I do with my liberal nut-job cousins from the Lenox-area of Atlanta
THIS....So best recommendation would be to get in a rural part of a red state that doesn't tax you to death!

Left rural small town Ga after calling it home since 1988. Honestly wish I had done it much sooner. Before last year, every time I left I knew I was going back. I could go years somewhere else and never consider it home. But now? The only place I will visit in that town is my parents farm. When they pass I’ll sell it and never go back.

As an example, in Home Depot yesterday to buy paint, it was business as usual for black and white employees and patrons. Same interaction as ever. The black manager was nice as he always is.
This is a good example and I do agree. Normal folks are just doing their normal things. Interactions are generally very good from all I’ve seen. The question is, how many more of these shootings will it take before folks just start spreading outside the urban areas? They won’t do it alone, mind you. These skinny jean white kids will be the ones to start riding around instigating stuff. And the more it happens, the bolder they’ll get. Hell, three black people, one of whom had been interviewed by local news media earlier in the day at a peaceful protest, tracked three cops to their homes and burned (or attempted to burn) their vehicles in their driveway. In their fricking driveways in the suburbs. Sure, it’s a one-off incident now. But how long before it’s more widespread? Fortunately, those three were caught, so hopefully an example will be made.
But what if Abrams had won? How in control would Georgia look right now?

If anything I'm thinking about uprooting to the deepest of the deep South.
Most rural out of the way place or maybe even beginning a swamp creature there in Louisiana just so people leave the the hell alone.

Moved from Jackson, MS to Champaign a few years ago. Best decision I’ve ever made.

I’ve been looking into Montana

also fairly progressive
But that’s the problem. The progressive agenda is feeding instability and discontent. And the folks unhappy now will never really be happy. You can’t have conversations with them because they don’t want to have conversations. They want you to hear THEM. That’s it. Look at the people calling for this officer’s head in Atlanta. Anyone with half a brain knows it was 100% justified. The evidence is right in front of everyone, but is ignored by those who just want unrest.

My parents moved from the Mississippi Gulf Coast to a town of like 1200 people in Missouri when they retired and I followed later just to see if I'd like it (26, not married, no kids). I live in a biggish city and I rarely even see black people and out where my parents live, there are basically none.
That said, there's plenty of white trash out and about and the people in the small towns are mainly conservative but pretty backward. The cities are chock full of liberals. In my experience, Missouri is a much more racist state than Mississippi ever thought about being.
The weather is a lot nicer, its 71 today with relatively low humidity, obviously not as nice as you'd get in Colorado or somewhere though. Its somewhat "cold" from November to April and while it does get pretty hot in the day, the evenings are nice.
I miss the Southern "way of life" and definitely the food though so I try to visit home pretty often.
There's a lot of governmental type things I dont like about Missouri, you have to pay a yearly tax on ATV's, boats, cattle, that type of thing, also they still have inspection stickers for cars. Just odds and ends like that.
Still undecided if I'll stay long term.

Is anyone else here having similar contemplations?
Yes, but not for the same reasons you list. I'm in my mid-40s and the wife and I are looking at vacation property that we want to eventually turn in to retirement homes. We have a certain $$$ figure in mind that once our investments hit that mark we'll begin considering retirement (as long as the kids are out of college).

You should open a diner. I tell my wife there’s money to be made simply cooking the way we were raised in an area like you’re in
Rural living is no problem. There is one single AA high school in our county and it’s in south GA farm country
