This is the thing no one is talking about. I’d bet just about anything our politicians are getting juice from the tariffs they allow.

I just hope it ruins some dirty politicians gravy trains.

I don’t know how it’s going to turn out. I think there are too many moving parts and too many possibilities for anyone to accurately predict it.
It does turn 40 years of the global economic order on its head, though. Tough to know where and how that re-organizes with the advent of AI thrown in.
My guess is some sort of UBI.

I do not know about that. However, there have been many examples of China’s money/spies having influence on US politicians for decades.

Yeah, I have no evidence but at least it would explain why they allow it to happen.

No. I know it’s going to work out for America.

Tariffs are good to protect critical industries that are necessary for national security such as food production, steel, energy, pharmaceuticals, automobiles, semiconductors. A super power should not rely on foreign nations to supply most of these.
Tariffs are good as leverage to negotiate better trade policies or as punishment for a trade partner who does or allows something to occur that harms the nation such as Mexico allowing trafficking of fentanyl.
Tariffs as bad as general industry protectionism for industries that cannot operate efficiently and are not critical to national security. I.E home appliances. If Japan can make a dishwasher for 500 dollars of similar quality to an American made dishwasher that cost 2,000 dollars, tariffs to increase cost of Japanese dishwasher to protect the American dishwasher company may do more harm than good.
However, you have to go into further economic detail on domestic regulatory policy and the moral side of things and determine what the value of those are. Are the American dishwashers more expensive because the company is inefficient or because American govt regulatory burden and tax burden is too much? Is Japan’s dishwasher cheaper because they can operate more efficiently and have access to cheaper raw materials or is it because they use child slave labor which becomes a moral question of should our money support that? (I know Japan doesn’t do this, this is a hypothetical) ideally you want to trade with nations who have similar regulations and values as your own, so the playing field is fair for free enterprise to occur.
Everyone argues for or against tariffs and the problem is most arguments on either side are being argued in a vacuum rather than looking at the nuanced details. There are positives and negatives to any policy enacted, and without knowing the true goals and endgames, and ultimately all the reasons for these tariffs, you cannot truly say if it’s the right thing to do or not. What we do know, is there have been some short term negative effects with stocks, and some positive developments with nations willing to negotiate and companies pledging American investment. Long term? We just have to wait and see if it’s overall good or bad

A few don't like Tariffs as opposed to being $30TRILLION in debt and 50% of the country living pay check to paycheck but HEY!! let's keep on doing the exact same thing that we have done for decades which got us into this mess

This is the problem. Most economists are foreign and or never left a classroom. They’re surrounded by liberals so there isn’t much going the other way. To them it’s all about conferences, getting published, and benefiting off of it.

Of course he doesn't, but that's for personal business reasons. So that opinion shouldn't be a factor to the lamen.
This is all new territory. On paper it will pan out. Unfortunately, we have to many that'll try to derail it, so who knows. Trump will hold strong though, so let's see what happens.
We need to pray it works out.

Correct. Just hoping whatever happens, I have enough money to last me the rest of my retirement years.

78 million voted for tariffs. I was one of those because Trump ran on tariffs. He said he'd shut the border, he did successfully and quicker than we build a Wawa.
Remember what we are up against, and the reasons we voted for massive change. The reason both parties lost to America First.
I’m anxious at times, but mainly because I’m used to “Made in China” and rich politicians being acceptable and normal.
From what I’ve read, the plan sounds like it can work. Will it, no clue. But, if there’s any guy who has a shot, I’m willing to put my money on Trump. He’s earned it. Not a single person on here would endure what he did. Especially with $5b in the bank.
Everyone is losing their shite over Monopoly money. It’s emotional to watch money we can’t touch, go up and down, knowing it will go up and up. It always does.

Why don’t enough people get as pissed off and crazy about income tax hikes? Why not crazy protests? No argument whether these are paid by you or not. Hey, these tariffs will just cause our prices to rise because they’ll pass the cost on to us. Hello? Hello? Test for echo!
Half the country was excited to vote for Hiliary and Biden who came out and said they would raise taxes. Same folks losing their sh!t over something they have no idea how or if it will affect them.

Some of y’all are pissed because you’re losing money. At the end of the day it’s about the legacy you leave behind for those you brought into the world. Someone has to feel the pain for the abomination of fiscal responsibility that has festered. I would rather it be me than my children. A reckoning has to occur, I’d rather my children not have to navigate it alone.

Because hes self-serving
Hes heavy into China parts for Tesla. He doesnt give an eff about Ford or Chevy being trariffed out of foreign markets. Why should he? They are his competitors
Billionaires thrive off unfair competition. Its why we have monopoly laws

I’m old enough to remember when many Democrats wanted tariffs. Bernie sure did. Like up until yesterday.
