Kinda feel bad for the kids if any really didn't know (doubtful).
If they didn't;t know, they are too dumb to be in college anyway. All their admissions should be publicly revoked and they should be kicked out immediately - with prejudice.

it's more then just paying a school to let you kid in. it's been reported that some got a favorable psychologist to state the kid had some kind of learning disability and needed 2x the normal time to take SAT/ACT. Then the kid was given a chance to take the ACT/SAT in a room by them selves with a proctor who then made changes or who allowed another person to take to test to give a higher score then the kid could get on their own so they could get into the college.

Ivy schools are indoctrination mills. They no longer represent the best and brightest. They're just a baby sitting camp for elitest nut jobs and the occasional token diversity entry.

In a roundabout way, this has made me feel good about college. I had a shot at going to an ivy. Didnt because I was super scared about fitting in with that type of crowd. Between this and all the folks ive met who did go to an ivy I think im good. no ragrets as they say.

If you have a honest business model, that is best. The only place these Ivy League cherubs should be sought after would be in some political or legal organization with ideological goals.
Any place that can give the likes of Sheila Jackson Lee a diploma for anything should be a eschewed by any honest professional

The charges they face isn't bribery. It's Federal wire fraud and can carry up to 20 years.
It is pretty crazy.
Not sure of the specifics.

It isn't how capitalism works, but it is how government works.

Read the article.
But I can already see the talking point fed to the masses will be:

Such a fricking shame these days that an entire narrative can be twisted with a simple headline because people are too lazy to read.

Here's the two big deals.
1. ACT/SAT Fraud. This guy was paying test monitors and administrators bribes to look the other way when someone took the test for another student, and in at least one case - actually went back and corrected a student's test answers.
I am not surprised this happened. I figure it happens often.
2. College Athletics Scandal. On the students that weren't committing test fraud, they were using their own test scores. This guy found willing coaches that would list the students as potential student athletes - which lowered their admission standards significantly (NCAA Clearinghouse requirements are lower than LSU standard requirements, think about how much lower they are than Stanford/USC/Texas/Georgetown).
These coaches and athletic administrators were taking bribes, listing these kids as PSA's, letting them get into school - and then the student athlete would just decide not to participate in the sport after they were admitted/enrolled.
This one surprised me greatly. Its very complex and took the cooperation of several high paid college administrators in addition to the coaches.
And if you ever doubted the sewer that I work in - go take a look at the Higher Ed news sites' coverage of this. The comments are blaming DeVos and Trump.

I don't know that I have any dogs in this hunt, because I haven't been paying attention to it past the Loughlin and Huffman arrests.
But I have to assume some rich faux Marxists will get smacked around and I like the thought of that.

I haven’t paid too much attention to this but it is sad/funny - I guess William H Macy was supposedly unaware which is why he hasn’t been arrested as well?

Heard this morning that one of the girls received a rowing scholarship to one of the schools.
She has never rowed a boat.
If you are going to pull off a scam, you have to think of all the angles and create some plausible deniability. Rowing is a great cover, honestly. The casual observer couldn’t tell the difference between an Olympic coxswain compared to someone out for a paddle. How about taking a few months, hire a coach, and get a crash course on rowing. After a week or two of school, you decide to step away from the sport you love to concentrate on academics.

I doubt you'd be laughing if your 3.9 gpa son was denied admittance to the school he worked long and hard for to get accepted to was denied that admittance because some 2.1 idiot got the nod because his parents had money and name recognition.
Posted on 3/13/19 at 8:17 am to piggilicious
FBI said some the kids were in on the negotiations and some of the parents hid it from the kids so that the kids would not know.

OR if the 2.1 kid got in for *ahem* "other" reasons than his parents had money/name recognition - reasons unrelated to academic merit or performance.

If your Asian, you're not even allowed to pay your way even if you already meet all the requirements

I started college in pre-pharmacy back when it was a 5 year program. Then, there were only 100 seats.
Applied to Auburn's Pharmacy program after my 2 year pre-pharmacy curriculum and didn't get accepted (blessing in disguise). Maybe a 3.4 wasn't quite good enough Later found out that the son of the Dean of Pharmacy at Florida got in at Auburn.
Wonder if it was the same situation. I mean, if the kid had the grades and such, why didn't he just go to Pharmacy School at Florida?
