I don’t think you should try to use past history to predict or explain current events. We are in odd and strange times. As for as the polls are concerned, they are unpredictable

Harris couldn't run a McDonalds, and is hands down the least qualified person to ever be considered for POTUS. Biden was/is the most corrupt. Obama was the first that is ideologically opposed to the Constitutional Republic form of our government, such that he sought to "fundamentally change" it.

This is where the populous is. Freedom only works for a truly moral and religious people. We are headed to Authoritarian governance for the sake of security; imposed by one side or the other. It was a wonderful time for people like me, others not so much. The old days or over, T, as we move to another level.

Carter was horrible and even then, he was the best the Dems could present as their standard bearer.

No dude. Just keep the Faith. If you don’t have it then ask for It. We are never alone nor abandoned when we have God.

I'm right behind you by a few years, brother.

My first clear political memory was watching Nixon leave the White House.

I remember the seemingly deep breath of relief everyone took when Reagan won.

You are spot on with your take on things. I've been thinking a lot lately about how common decency, and just the basic drive to be "good" has been lost in our society. Your wisdom and insight are important. Thanks for sharing.

Serious question - who was Carter being manipulated by?

My first exposure was JFK who I admired. Whom they shot.

Lyndon Johnson was a massive failure and helped send many brothers to their death.

I was watching late night news from California when they shot RFK right after walking off stage as the nominee. I was fourteen.

Nixon was my first chance to vote. I voted for him.

Nixon was overall a very good POTUS. To me, his biggest mistake was his 'price control' initiative that set off the first big recession. But it was his tenure that made it clear there was a real bias in the 'journalism' profession. This is when the people behind the microphones discoverrd began using it to propagandize the American electorate. They tasted blood in the water and have pursued that tactic ever since.

I was born during Johnson's administration but don't really remember it since Nixon was inaugurated before I was a year old. I thought Nixon was great when I was rather young ( I still think so). I remember sitting on my dad's shoulders in the parking lot of the high school in Ashland, Kentucky when Nixon came to our little town to campaign in '72. It was cold as hell that night but I loved being able to see the president.

I was six years old in '74 when Nixon resigned. I remember seeing it on the news then looking at Dad and asking for an explanation, then promptly sitting down in the floor and bawling. I couldn't imagine anyone other than Richard Nixon as our president. Even the words "President Ford" sounded alien to me - but not as odd as "President Carter" would sound to my ears shortly afterward.

I guess I carry a little of my dad's tradition for voting despite the fact he passed away in '93. I have never cast a vote for a Dem. I'd like to think that I would if there were someone who was worthy and ran as a member of that party, but the entirety of the Democrat party has been little more than socialism and communism being rammed down our throats incrementally.

As for Dad - the last Dem he voted for was Truman After that he was all aboard for Ike, Nixon, Goldwater, Nixon, Ford, Reagan, and GHW Bush. Dad was a delegate from West Virginia to the Democrat National Convention in Atlantic City in '64 where he voted to nominate LBJ, then he promptly returned to his home in Lincoln County and voted for Barry Goldwater in the general election.

He stayed registered as a Democrat throughout his life, but never voted for a single Dem outside the primaries. He had hoped to save the party from itself, but to no avail. I think he was actually more Republican at heart than most Republicans are today - or have been in a couple decades.

So no, I'm not really an old head, but I still try to vote like the old head that raised me. He was born in 1930 and his political beliefs seemed to be pretty much in line with yours. It's just strange that he never changed his party registration.

Carter was the standard, for me, as a weak president. In some ways I think he wanted to do good, but was ineffective in his policies. He demonstrated the reasons for why you simply can't get along with every country.

Biden on the other hand has zero redeeming qualities. Since the day he took office others have been in control (I'm going by his demonstrated mental stability). But Biden's history even before being VP is one that is tainted with misconduct.

This is my thought as well. He was just in over his head. A good and decent man that was unprepared for the realities of being President of the mightiest nation on earth.
You guys could not be wrong about Carter. He was an extremely competitive and aggressive man with a killer instinct. He was not well liked by those who knew him well.

He WAS pious, and he notably dedicated his life, after politics, to helping the poor and left wing causes. But he was not an avuncular man.

When people talk about how nice Carter was, all I can think about is waiting in line to get gas on our day.

That was a bitch. And I remember the grocery prices. I was in first marriage and since neither of my wives could cook I did all the grocery shopping and cooking from day one. I remember seeing the high price of a pound of ground beef so I decided to wait till tomorrow. It was even higher the next day. So, I stocked up the freezer with expensive ground beef because sure enough it went way up the next day.

Carter was elected as a reaction to the Nixon scandal. He played the faith card and led people to believe that he was a man of integrity. His policies and the impact on ordinary Americans made him a one term president.

Clinton was the most skilled 'politician' of my lifetime - you have to give it to him wrt his sense of "what will get me elected" but even so, he had tremendous help from Ross Perot, and the media in molding public opinion. I think the evil in his life was centered in HRC. I think he was just in it for the personal acclaim and young women he could seduce.

If Clinton was so politically skilled, why did it take 3rd party candidates to get him elected? He had to be brought in kicking and screaming to sign the GOP House and Senate legislation that made him look successful.

The reason GHW Bush was able to take the "high road" is because of his puppet Clinton. People forget Bush ran the CIA.

Carter was a good speaker, a good man and well intentioned if both misguided and naive.

I felt like the country suffered more because he didn’t know how to react to conditions that action he planned.

As much as he sucked, I’d take Carter any day over Biden or Harris. He actually cared about the country.

In terms of damage done if they actually do what they want I’d even take LBJ over Harris, and I think LBJ has an argument to be the worst President in history.

Carter was a very decent man who got caught in a shitstorm mostly not of his making. A confluence of factors created inflation, and then there was the
Iranian hostage crisis that would have
damaged any administration.
