I understand what you're saying, but there is no way you can sit there and say the US hasn't been poking this bear for 30 years. And especially since the early 2010s

Putin is KGB. (I was told when I worked in Moscow in the mid-1990's by a Russian I trust, there is no such thing as former KGB after I used that term in her presence.)
He was raised and trained to hate the West. He was quoted saying the dissolution of the USSR was the greatest geopolitical tragedy of the 20th century. I guess World War 2 was insignificant to him on the Tragedy Scale.

Q. 1) Keep providing military assistance in the way of intelligence, arms and ammunition but not boots on the ground.
Ukraine is never going to win. Ukraine was never going to win. NATO is not occupying Ukraine as it has done to other nations. You're just asking for us to waste money and continue pushing Russia toward China, which is an alliance that can wipe us out. This 30 year quest to whittle away at Russia is one of the worst foreign policy moves in our history. Do you realize how mutually beneficial it would be if we were allies with Russia? We could have had that long ago. The USSR is gone. It's way past the time that we should have moved on. After 9/11, one of, if not the first call to Bush came from Russia. That country has tried to start with a clean slate after the fall of the USSR. We ought to meet them half way. Instead we are pushing them toward China. It's monumentally stupid.
quote:
Q. 2) Stay out of any internal moves against Putin. Let the Russians handle it.
This is never going to happen. Putin's popularity has soared. I know people like you have criticisms. That's fair. But you must be honest in part of your assessment, and admit that Putin looks after Russian interests. Most of DC acts counter to US interests. It's a stark contrast. Americans see this. Russians see this. Russia has drawn a line - no more NATO expansion to the east. We lied to them 30 years ago and have continued lying and have adopted an offensive posture against them. They are not giving in and they shouldn't give in. Ukraine is strategic and existential for them. Ukraine means nothing for us. Every time these idiots in Ukraine lob missiles into Russia, they make Putin stronger and they make things worse for themselves.
Like I said, Putin is more popular than ever and patriotism has soared in Russia as idiots here in the US target them, ban them from sports, demonize them, etc. We've taken a nation that has wanted to be allied with us for decades and convinced them that we are a mortal threat.
Meanwhile, Putin's list is nothing compared to Hillary Clinton's and we have a federal govt that is at war against the People and the Constitution. We have a Congress getting rich on insider trading while inflation cripples the rest of America. We have authoritarianism budding right here at home. We have so many problems that need to be addressed and yet we are in a proxy war in a nation that has no strategic value to us at all.
Once again - Russians are going to do nothing to Putin, except maybe build statues of him. We need to focus on America. In this nation we have college students burning the American flag, in Russia, despite what you say about Putin, they have this:

Who do you think is a Putin fanboy on here exactly?
This is yet another strawman argument by idiots on this board.
Its very simple, one can hold the thought that Putin is a horrible, dictator that should assume room temperature but also, we should not be antagonizing Russian and this unstable personality over Ukraine which hold ZERO strategic interest for the US.

Of course I get the point.
You want to play "whataboutisms" in order to justify what Putin has done.
I don't play that game. Not when what Vladimir has done has already cost casualties of over 1,500,000 civilians and military personnel from both sides with more everyday.
I never thought I'd see the day where professed patriots and conservatives on this board would praise and openly admire a murderous dictator.
What the frick did you expect him to do?? Harris talking about letting Ukraine into NATO, watching NATO continue to expand, after being assured it wouldn't.
Would we allow Mexico to join a enemy organization and set up military bases and missiles in Mexico?
It's not praising Putin to speak about the facts that led him to invade.
In addition, Putin was willing to have peace talks 2 weeks after he invaded. The US told Zylenski no.
It's been the US continuing and escalating the war. Putin has been responding.
I think it's mind bottling that you can't see this.

If not for that, Crimea would be Ukrainian today. We encouraged Ukraine to poke a rattlesnake. It struck ... predictably.

Did you make a thread for all of the men Zelensky kidnapped and sent to the front line to become cannon fodder?
Some of us are very indifferent to the war and just want the US to stop any involvement including sending weapons and money. That doesn't make anyone a Putin fanboy. It's a crazy jump in logic many of you make.

I got your liberal, mother fricker. I understand your hard on for anything Russian, but you can't deny that the coup we fomented to bring Z to power.

Read my post near the top of the third page of this thread where I gave some examples of posts by those fan boys. None of those examples are posters saying they oppose the U.S. giving military aid to Ukraine.
