EXCLUSIVE: Gunman Near White House Eluded Secret Service Two Weeks Before Dinner Shooting
By Susan Crabtree
April 26, 2026

For two weeks before an intruder broke through security at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in Washington, D.C., the Secret Service had been investigating a mystery shooting near the White House but had come up emptyhanded – to the frustration of both President Trump and top Department of Homeland Security officials – multiple Secret Service sources told RealClearPolitics.

Just after midnight early in the morning after Easter Sunday, Secret Service Uniformed Division officers responded to a shooting near the White House and D.C.’s Lafayette Park, but the Secret Service couldn’t pinpoint exactly where the shot landed. The Secret Service investigated and found rifle shell casings at 16th and I Streets, and a video located the shooter’s vehicle but no images of the gunman.

The Secret Service conducted a search of the park, which was fenced for repairs, and didn’t find a suspect. The agency publicly noted that it had heightened its security posture around the White House in response to the shooting.

The Secret Service publicly said it was looking for a possible vehicle and a person of interest, but that was not the full story, according to two Secret Service sources. The Secret Service had pinpointed the vehicle the shooter used, but it ended up having stolen plates so the agency couldn’t track it to any identifying information about the shooter, and the case went cold.

President Trump continued to want answers, but the Secret Service didn’t fully inform him or others at the White House about all they had uncovered in the probe.
...

The agents on the ground Saturday night were brave. That is not in question. What is in question is the lapses in a protection plan that put them in that position – and whether anyone in a position of authority is willing to ask, plainly and publicly, how a man was in that hotel armed for war and was able to confront Secret Service agents and officers at the last line of defense.

Orrrrr how about let’s focus on how Marxist politicians have taken over half the country and want our side dead and our side politicians are still playing politics instead of war

Our security needs to be fixed. Clean out from top to bottom. Standards need to be put in place.

At some point the dude had to have entered or exited the vehicle, right?

The Secret Service needs to stick with trying to locate counterfeit money and we need to develop an elite organization that can protect the president.

I find it amazing and shocking that there aren't cameras set up around the White House for blocks in all directions.... for this very reason.
It's hard to believe...

The would be assassin never got through the first line of defense and past the second line to get to the last line of defense.

The guy was caught on the level above where Trump was.

I agree. The SS agents that are actually involved in guarding POTUS should be elite level individuals.
That fat female in Butler who couldn't handle her pistol and has been suspended THREE times, and others like her, should not be guarding POTUS.

IF it hadn't been a lone nerd with zero experience attempting to do harm, the outcome would've been different.
Imagine if 5 tactically trained, skilled, assasins armed with automatic weapons, body armor, and grenades had rushed into the event......

That's because the suspect was the Secret Service.

This is the fifth article I’ve already seen or read on the Monday morning following the WCD with the exact same talking points.

And it’s not even 10:00 A.M. CST.

It’s blatantly obvious the MSM have been given their talking point and are running with this angle. It should be embarrassing for them that a 50+ y.o. in the middle of the middle of Missouri can see through their BS because I have a supercomputer in my pocket.

Lead story in the Washington Post…

“Correspondent’s Dinner lacked highest security level despite presence of top officials(Bold)”

-The White House Correspondents Dinner, attended by the President and several top cabinet members, was not given top level security status that would have unlocked the full weight of federal resources.

Sorry but for some reason the quote function wasn’t working on my phone.

The irony is that if you go on X the other half of the Democrats are all claiming it was a set up and an excuse for Trump and his administration to build a ballroom.

You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t with these people, they literally have a fricking screw loose and you cannot live with them!

I can fix security. Active duty troops need training. Rotate Battalions of infantry to supplement WH perimeter security and at events

“Armed for war?

That’s more than a bit over the top.

Unless something differed has been released he had a revolver, a budget Mossberg shotgun, and a few knives.

There are many law abiding citizens driving down any random street at this very instant with more firearms on their person or in their vehicle.

So let me get this straight, we use delta to provide security for warlords and "mutually beneficial enemies" in our overseas conflicts but don't use them to guard the president? Makes a lot of sense.
