The annual inflation rate in June was 3.5%, according to the Labor Department's consumer price index report released Tuesday.
The report by the department's Bureau of Labor Statistics attributes the drop in consumer prices, in large part, to a decrease in the cost of energy.
The consumer price index is a broad measure of costs for goods and services across the U.S. economy.
The June rate also marked a 0.4% decrease from the annualized rate in May.
This decline in June was the largest 1-month decrease since April 2020 when the CPI fell 0.8%.
Economists surveyed by Dow Jones predicted a 0.2% drop and for the monthly annualized rate to be 3.8%, according to CNBC.

He must be in court. It’s purely coincidental that he’s not available for these types of discussions.

Consumer prices in June were 3.5% higher than they were in June 2025.

A decrease in the RATE of inflation does not mean that prices went down, just that they didn’t go up as much compared to expectations and/or previous time periods.
Hey, I’m glad the rate went down! And I think that the Trump policies are correct (except in the continued rate of government spending) in trying to slow inflation.
Nevertheless, this botched reporting contributes to poor understanding of economics.
ETA: I’m surprised at the down votes.

Apparently, there are very few here that understand economics and how it impacts them.
We are also celebrating being the #1 exporter of oil, it’s ludicrous.

Are we happy about 3.5%? Median annual salary raises for most Americans is probably not typically above this.

Embarrassing to act like 3.5% is something to gloat about.
I would expect the blockade to pump those numbers even higher. Winning!

Seems to me they are celebrating the DROP in inflation, not the specific number itself.
It will never be what you want it to be without going down, so it has to pass through 3.5 to get there.
It never fails, though. Whenever something is trending badly, people immediately bitch without seeing how it will turn out. When something is trending positively, it's never immediate jubilation or even just appreciation. It's always just more bitching because it isn't good enough.

Real wage growth definition is when wages less inflation are actually positive. With the exception of one month, Trump has had real wage growth.
